Anyone here ever been to Veligandu? We are going in september for our honeymoon and could really do with some advice as we have never been anywhere like this!!
Thanks
it was fabulous and like yourselves it was our 1st time, wont be the last though!
what do you want to know?
rachel
What plugs are in use on Veli? can we use standard Uk plus or do we need an adaptor?
Tips?, we read somewhere that you need to tip, then we read somewhere else that not all islands like you tipping? Do we and how much?
How expensive is it out there? we are going AI but have no idea how much we will need to spend for the 2 weeks, also is it best just taking cash or travellers cheques as well?
Sorry for all the questions!!
Thanks!
re plugs, i am about 99% positive its the same as the uk, but my husband thought we had to use an adaptor
tips, it actually tells you in the handbook in the room so it is expected here. i think we over tipped at 1st cos we thought the person takin us to our room was our room boy. he wasn't. room boys wear VERY loud shirts.
i would tip a couple of dollars to the reception guy who takes you too the room, a couple of dollars each for the guys who bring your cases. so take some small notes
10 dollars a week for your waiter & 10 dollars a week for your room boy
the bar staff share their tips so i think we tipped about 30 dollars for 10 nights. they were great though, always had a drink to replace an empty one & very chatty
it depends what you want to do. it was our honeymoon so we decided to ignore the cost. ithink we spent an extra 200 dollars and just paid for it at the end with credit card. everything gets put on your bill
we didn't do too many extras, just cocktails, snacks from the mini bar -this isn't included in all inclusive, cannoeing & i had a treatment in the spa for sun burn!
i would advise to take cash for tips & if you want to go shopping as the only thing that isn't put on your bill is anything bought in the shop
i can't wait to get back there!
hope this answers your questions

We have a seaplane transfer included in our holiday, but we read somewhere they cease flying at 4pm, it is about 3pm when we land in Male so i would assume we would be lucky if we manage to get this (assuming they do stop flying at 4pm) Airtours really are useless!
Whats the restaurant like? We heard that on veligandu everyone sits at one big table, is that right?
Thanks in advance, so excited now.
Not sure where you heard you share one big table as that's not true. Table are for 2 or 4 people. Sometimes they might sit you with another couple if the island is really busy but at your first meal on the island tell the waiter you would like a table on your own (if you want one) and they will do their best to accommodate you.
