I think it all depends on that first visit to a country and whether the experience and resort is a good or bad one. We were lucky the resort accommodation and freedom to get about suited us from our first visit. But I know there are resorts in the Algave which if I had stayed at on my first visit may well have put me off returning. But I can say that of other countries I have visited...been seen and not bothered about going again...Cyprus and the Seychelles come to mind in my case yet others rave about these locations.

i have been coming out to the Algarve for over 20 years :sun2 and yes it has changed so much the airport used to be a shed, very few tarmac roads,no motorways :cry but yes eveyone is different, so perhaps those of us in the know should keep it's magnetic charm for ourselves :whoops
on a brighter note only 4 weeks to our next trip i wonder if the chicken statue has made it into the centre of the roundabout at Guia yet to signify the capital area of "frango piri piri".
also booked flights for october, february and easter really cheap, what credit crunch :yikes staying with portuguese freinds as usual who have nurtured and befreinded us over the years.
ahh !! "saudades algarve"

The Algarve has Sagres (not the poster, the beer). That's good enough reason to keep me going back!!! HIC :cheers :cheers :rofl
