Hello Dave
I PM'd you this report but just in case you did not receive it"¦ .read on.
Well. We arrived back home on Monday evening after yet another holiday in Malta. I said I would give you info on the Victoria hotel. Firstly let me say that it is as 'posh' as it looks on their site. The staff are very attentive. Our rooms were cleaned every day as you would expect. Towels (lovely and soft) changed daily. Beds are twin but more like 3/4 than single and we had clean sheets EVERY day. The tv was not working upon arrival but within 2 days every room in the hotel had new large tv sets. You could even check you bar bill on tv. We (mom and I) had a room each and requested the top floor so we would have a better view. There is a giant building project at the rear of the hotel, not much noise but plenty of dust. Roof top pool area good and clean as is the upper roof terrace. Waiter service in the bar and a pot of nuts or crisps (as one would expect). All staff are very friendly. Internet room @ 50c per 15min. Food is plentiful and you can have as much as you can eat. eg. Breakfast:- 2 hard cheeses, mini goat cheese, big dish soft cheese, salad, cold cuts (app 4-6) preserves, porridge, cereals, hot/cold milk, hot date slice, hot Croissant, Bacon, eggs (boiled/fried/omelette/scrambled) varies daily, sausage, frankfurter, tomatoes, beans, mushroomes, potatoe croque, app 6-9 types of bread and 2 cake, decent chilled juice, tea and coffee. Think I remembered it all. You can have as much as you like and keep going to the buffet (self service) while ever you are capable of walking. NO EXTRA CHARGES. Same at evening meal (diff food ;o)))
Now to the down sides. It states in the brochure that it is a 10 min walk to the front. Thats ok. It does not tell you that it is downhill whichever way you go.......so.......you need to walk up the hill again on your return. This is ok if you are reasonably fit. I am over 50 and that makes mom..... errr.... well.. older. She can walk a good way at her own pace but the hills were creasing her (and me) every day. After the first week she had a very bad day so I requested a transfere to the Gillieru in St Pauls Bay where we normaly stay . Big come down in the luxury department but easier walking. Also the air quality is much better than Sliema. Think thats about all but if you want to ask anything please do so. If you send an email address I will send a few pix of the hotel, pool and views.
One more thing. If the Imperial (the one I saw) is just around the corner. It looks to be a shabby little place that looks as if it has closed down. Victoria looks much more superior.
PS. Am having a plate full of Maltese sausage for 'T' tonight

Hello Sliema2.
Yes I totaly agree that the inside looks very impresive on the site and I might add that it was on our short list before booking due to how good it looks. To be fair we did not go in the hotel, yes, we should have done so. My comment was that it looks shabby from the outside. I can not cffer an opinion other than such.

Any way, I think you will agree with me that so long as we all enjoy where we go we are all happy, but those who go to Malta are the happiest :)

Happy Christmas sliema2 & Mrs sliema2. and everyone else on here

Hello Allan, got your P M many thanks top review.
Hello Sliema2, had a look at the imperial hotel site you put up it does look nice but and there is always a but, how old are the pictures on this site as you may know from looking in holiday brochures, and when you get there they could be 10 years old and well in need of a refit.
Now don't get me wrong I am not a snob but in Malta me and Mrs holidaymaker like to go 4* as some of the 3* are a bit of a let down, and this hotel was on my list to visit but after seeing some reports about it we have never got round to useing it.
Any way thats me,
Dave

Hi Dave, we first stayed there in September 2003 and had a great week, we last stayed there in December 2004 and it was really quite nice then aswell, we last popped in September for a couple of beers in the bar and it was still nice then in fact Mrs Sliema2 noticed that it had all been re-decorated since our last stay, it is a very well run hotel with an excellent manager in Joe Attard and very good staff on reception, restaurant, and domestic, granted the hotel is quite old so it's not flashy and modern, but it has charm and a certain style.

Hello Sliema2, yes as a old hunting lodge turned into a hotel it does has that look about it, I must say it was the pool area that made me look at it more than once as most of the hotels in Sliema seem to have small roof top ones, the one at the imperial has a nice area to flop out by.
As for the rest of it what do you do when you see bad reports by some people and good by others. We stayed at the Kennedy Nova last time for our summer holiday and thought it was great, good food, nice room but have again seen some reports about this hotel needing a refit, you only have to look at the price say compaired to the Waterfront, two 4* hotels and the prices are so different by as much as £150.00 for two weeks this says something is wrong with the Kennedy Nova and untill it has a referb we will not be useing this hotel ether.
So it looks like we may go for the Victoria after the report from Fallan as we did last new year after reports from charliegirl007 and our mate trev about the hotel Coastline.
