I agree the planes are obvisouly more than safe and adequate otherwise they wouldnt be allowed to operate. I will fly with any airline as long as they are offering good value. What some people think is just because it's not a well known name that they are getting substandard service, the majority of charter flights now are no frills so I don't see the problem.

..and hopefully with some thought to their stability and making sure you are protected should the worst happen before or during your travels? Remember XL/Zoom/Maxjet/EOS/Silverjet...
We have booked with Viking.
Flying Manchester to Paphos on 26/7/09, VIK 277 - 1930 departure
Return Pahos to Manchester on 09/8/09, VIK 278 - 1520 departure
Have not bothered to pre book seats this year.
Can you please advise on type of aircraft and layout of seating.
Thanks in advance.
Irene
MAN-PFO-MAN (VIK277/8) are operated by a Boeing 737-800. Refer to our What Aircraft? thread for more details.

Not sure if this a temporary measure as Jet2 were providing the planes prior to this and by the looks of the Palmair website will be in the future as Flights are still prefixed LS. ?
I Think It Is Only Temporary As Air Europa Are Definatly Operating Lots Of The Summer Flights
Gower
I believe it's only temporary and Viking are basing a Boeing 737-300 (G-BYZJ?) in Bournmouth through the summer.
Darren
I have just had a look on the Palmair website for Bournemouth flights and all flights for the summer have an Astraeus (AEU) flight code. Are Viking operating these flights on behalf of Astraeus this summer or will Astraeus operate the flights with their own aircraft?
Astraeus are operating some flights on behalf of Viking / Palmair using a 737-700 (possibly G-STRH although I thought this was wet leased to Iceland Express).
Darren
I do believe Astraeus have a 737 on order (G-STRN and formerly OY-MRD from Sterling) so maybe they will use this for the Viking / Palmair flights!?
Quite possibly, I'd forgotted about G-STRN's imminent arrival. That's likely the candidate for the BOH base, or that will be sent to Iceland Express in the new livery and G-STRH will stay in BOH (unlikely). We'll soon see in about 3 weeks time!
Darren
will flights booked through freedom direct with viking still be honoured ? any ideas ?
thanks bit nervous . typically found out when all offices closed. 10 of us going on hol for mums 80th birthday !
I have been pricing holidays to the Red Sea for next spring with Travel Republic. They keep bringing me up flights with an airline called Viking. Are they new as I don't seem to have heard them talked about on here ? And I suppose the other question is are they reputable and has anyone travelled on them ? (thinking about all the company collapses over the last year ).
Hi Doe .. I have merged your enquiry with our Viking Airlines topic, which may now provide you with some info about their background and reputation.
Thanks David. Apologies I should have done a search. Off to have a read.
Has anyone actually flown with them this season ? We are flying into Kalamata with Thomas Cook in 2 weeks time, but their prices for another trip in September are off the scale ! Would be interested to hear from anyone, especially anyone who has flown with the 'newly formed' Viking Airlines, as their prices are much lower. Are they actually flying using the old XL planes after all ????
Yes they have former Xcel 737's in their fleet.
