We stayed at the Luperon Beach some years ago now and enjoyed it, they had just started building the second hotel, Tropical, at the time so it will be much bigger now.
We had a ground floor suite which was clean if a little dated and like most hotels in the Caribbean they struggle with decoration in the humidity, as fast as they paint the mould grows back but it wasn't something we couldn't live with.
Food was typical DR buffet with plenty of choice, it did get a bit boring by the second week but we find that most places.
They had two pools then but I think they built more with the Tropical.
Two downsides for me were, although the beach is very long, there are small rocks along most of where it meets the sea. so you can only really paddle in that bit, there is a roped off swimming area up near the beach buffet but it shelves very quickly and I found it difficult to get out of the water with the waves pulling me back.
The second is that the transfer to the hotel is very long and its quite isolated so any excursions involve a lot of travelling.
