We have always rented a cottage in devon / cornwall . We usually go for barn conversation type set-up where there are a few cottages that share an indoor pool, games room etc. not cheap in the summer holidays tho have a look at http://www.premiercottages.co.uk they have quite a few and you book direct with the owners. these places are ideal for children of your age as many of these are on farms where the owners take the young children out in the morning to feed the animals etc. We have stayed at tredthick cottages with premier cottages and that is excellent for young children . the owners really make a fuss of young children taking them all out in their wellies every morning and feeding the animals and doing donkey rides etc . here is the link http://www.premiercottages.co.uk/cottage.asp?ID=160 then you can head out to some lovely beaches for the day. we have also stayed here http://www.poltarrow.co.uk . I have been having a look at the Hoseasons brochure and they have a place called "Juliot's Well" has anybody ever stayed in any of the lodges that are here?
Any opinions on them

I knew Id seen that place somewhere butch . juliots well is also on that "breaks in cornwall " link I gave . It does look nice and in Camelford which is a lovely part of cornwall near the coast at padstow/bodmin moor and the camel trail for great "flat"bike rides along the estuary . wonderful views .

I would read the HORRIBLE reviews on tripadvisor for Juliot's well..... don't think I would chance it.

We used to stay at St Ives Bay holiday camp they had chalets etc there
and just a short walk through the camp to the Towans at Hayle

Ayr Holiday Park has statics and some apartments and are actually in St Ives so everything on the doorstep. There's also lots of holiday cottages and apartments in St Ives.

If I were you, I would try the area around Polzeath. It's close to Wadebridge and I spent many a summer holiday there as a child and it was fantastic. So much so, I took my eldest there some years ago for a week and we had a great time and it rekindled all my old memories.

That was some years ago but after spending time in the med for the last few years we are contemplating having a week down there next year and just hope and pray we get the weather!!!!

I feel sure that in the years that have passed that you will find a lodge or chalet in the vicinity to suit you.

From my experience of cornwall i would strongly recommend staying near some sort of beach especially along the north coast, fantastic views, and a fantastic area for the family, not nto mention there are loads of attractions and other various things to do. I used a company called XXXXXXXXX and they seem to have their head screwed on with what they are talking about, especially with holiday cottages, and they have log cabins, barn conversion etc. I didn't last year have an idea of where i wanted to go so i used the holiday ideas page on their website to inspire me and before you know it i was staying in a property that had its own private beach access, i think it was called XXXXXX and was somewhere i think called XXXX ? They also gave us an A3 page of discount vouchers for attractions too which came in handy.

Take a lesson or two in surfing as well, i have never had so much fun with the kids in my life

But i would certainly suggest staying in holiday cottages, you never know with the weather either, just look at what happened the summer just gone, it wasn't sunny until September.

Thanks for the suggestions we will take these away for future reference, but a friend of mine has just changed my plans completely saying i am getting Married next year and you are invited (It in Scotland) there's a 250 mile trip to change my plans.
So i am now going to start a thread for Loch Lomond area as this will now be my family holiday
