If you change sterling to USD then change that to Kenyan shillings you will have two lots of exchange/commission.

It´s a long till since we were in Kenya, but we changed sterling to shillings when we were there. The bank gave a better rate than the hotels.

I´m pretty sure we paid for the safari in shillings as well, but it may have changed now and they do accept sterling.

Hi just returned from Kenya in Oct, had a great time ! The best way we found was to take some shillings and some dollars then use atm's as neccessary (having been back for 2 months no prob with atm) you can spend dollars in most places but not sterling. Most tips gratefully recieved in dollars ! Did an 8 day safari again loved it we used an operator (i can give u company name if allowed ?) paid half deposit by bank transfer and other half when we got there all paid in dollars.

Hope this helps, just ask if u need any more info will help if i can

Hi and welcome to HT!

Thanks for the information which should be useful.

Can I ask that you do not use phone style text, eg u instead of you? Some of our visually impaired members use Screen Readers that do not recognise this type of text.

Thanks.
