Hi
I'm looking for advice on what to do next.
I booked a holiday cottage in Scotland last month.
On arrival, we found various dirty things, cooker, chairs, dog hairs in couch amongst other things.
It was 24 hours before I could get hold of the owner due to having no phone signal and we couldn't find the WiFi code.
When I got hold of him, he did offer to have us moved or have the place cleaned.
We didn't want to be disturbed so declined. We shouldn't have been put in this position anyway, it should have been done.
He has seen the photos and agreed it's not up to standard.
All he has offered is a discount on another stay but we wouldn't go back.
Is there anything else I can do?
Is there anything else I can do?
Not a lot really. You say that once you contacted the owner (no phone signal or wi-fi is not unusual no matter what the service providers might claim) he offered to have the place cleaned or to move you.
You say
"We didn't want to be disturbed so declined."
The owner obviously took your complaint seriously but it was you that said no. If you want a refund then ask him.

OK, thank you for the reply.
Why should we be disturbed, we paid for a clean place, we didn't get it.
And I'm not actually looking for a refund, maybe 1 night refunded for the crap I kept finding on the Tuesday.
Thanks for the input.

I would assume that the owner pays someone to do the cleaning and they have failed to do it.
In that case, have you actually asked for a partial refund? And what was the owner's response?
