BIGDENNIS10UK, we have booked with Virgin for next year I think you will find that the car is in the price for 2 weeks. We are going for 3 weeks and were just charged £40 for the car for the 3rd week the first 2 weeks were free. We are going to use the car for doing alternate days out such as the beach. :cheers
ps the cheapest place I have found so far for the park tickets is on Virgin site aswell :D

yeah, my girlfriend seems to not trust anything unless its on the virgin website, the olny thing is the dates only go up to march 2010 and we're looking for oct 2010, a way off, but might as well book it now haha

they give you booking onlines discount of 5%, so i'd preferably like to book online, did you get the discount?

what tickets did you get?

you staying in orlando for the whole three weeks?

by the way, i doubt the car is free, its just hidden in the price somewhere ;) its quite cheap though and you get to go in the Vroom at the airport, not that i know what goes on in there, but it makes you feel kinda special inside :cheers

Big D - see my thread about insurance before you go.

Also I travelled here every other month before I became permanately settled in Florida - £26.00 to £180.00 is all I ever paid booking through the charter companies on the Teletext.

And if you want to book your own accommodation try looking at the Florida State Parks (most have cabins to rent) we went to Georgia earlier in the year and a 8 birth 3 bed cabin cost us $130.00 - use search engine and put in Florida State Parks (but they are further out than the tourist areas and you'll have to drive.

Be aware that the "free car hire" doesn't include insurance which can be extortionate through Virgin. Try pricing the car and insurance through http://www.netflights.com as they will probably be cheaper.

A bit more on what Luci is saying - if you book fly-drive or a package with car hire make sure the words (or similar) PAID IN FULL IN UK are on the car hire section.

These car hire companies "give" rental and know that once you are here they just pile on the ins cost to get the car rental (and often more) out of you when they know you cant walk down the road and get another car.

We booked with Virgin albeit prob a dearer option (cheap compared to other companies) because in todays economic climate and booking so far ahead we didn't want to go down the DIY route and end up with either the flight company going bust or the accommodation being non existant when we got there, I appreciate this could happen to Virgin aswell but we thought it was a safer option at the mo. I have more faith in Richard Branson at the mo than cheap airlines just my opinion :cheers 357 days to go :sun2

Louise - totally agree although I always "DIY" as if you know where to get and don't just buy any old insurance you can get covered for accommodation, airline going bust and everything else that you book yourself.

You guys (in the UK) should count yourself lucky with insurance - although I am very against the cheap insurance policy (you get what you pay for) here in the US it is so much more expensive, example my wife and I are travelling back to the UK next month and the cheapest we have been quoted for is $360.00 (£257.00) for 2 weeks holiday!

For that price you can get the whole holiday on Teletext! ! !

Package price 750.00 1 750.00
Atol protection contribution 1.00 2 2.00
Booking fee 10.00 2 20.00
Weekend flight supplement 20.00 4 80.00
Fuel apd & Resort tax 205.00 2 410.00
Fully inclusive insurance 280.00 1 280.00

Total for your holiday £1542.00

travel city direct, they reckon they do deals, but it doesn't seem no cheaper to me?

they reckon the car is free, but you have to pay 280 for insurance for it? doesn't seem right to me?

this is with no park tickets either, so with park tickets it would send us well over 2 grand once we bought them, this is staying at the rodeway inn in international drive.

All the package tour companies claim to include a 'free' car and then charge extra for all the necessary insurances. No, it doesn't seem right, but they all do it, so at least you are comparing like with like when you price them up. Travel City Direct are part of Virgin Holidays. It is always worth pricing on both sites, as one or the other may be cheaper. Have you tried pricing it on all the usual package holiday websites, T Cook, Thomson, Portland and First Choice?

alot of the companines don't go up as far as oct 2010 :(

so i cant price em up properly.

Oh yes, that's true. Well I suppose you could price it for Oct 2009 to give you some idea. I think Summer 2010 should be out pretty soon.

Have you thought about booking last minute...I know it can be risky but last month i priced up the Floridays resort for 2 adults/ 3 kids in a 3 bed appt to go on 22nd may 09 and the price was £3300, but when i priced it for the same date next year the price was £4700. Thats a big difference..nearly the price of our theme park tickets.

By the way that was with Thomson.

well, i'm thinking about saving up about 3000 to 3500 pounds, do you htink this will be enough for everything including spending money, park tickets, hotel and flights, car and what not for two adults?

maybe we should save up just over 3 grand and get a late deal ,we've been lookign at quality inn plaza to stay in, do you htink i will need a car if i stay here?

we are kinda caught betwee going to florida or going all inclusive in cancun, that costs about 1250 each all inclusive.

do you think 2 adults could do the whole florida holiday with 3500 all in, that should include most everage thing (obviously not discovery cove and stuff like that), but just food and drink during the day.

the exchange rate seems to have got a bit better for us at the minute

ive been quoting up holidays today, although its for me and my son I have to pay adult prices for him.

Ive just found a holiday staying in that hotel, flying out in mid july tho (I have to go within a 3 week space so am limited) but the holiday has come in at £1180 for us both . . .flying with Thomsons from B'ham
Pricing up passes comes in at about £700 that is the universal/disney passes . . . but not including discovery cove etc

Hire car for 2 weeks coming in at around £260

So, Ive got to about £2200 so far, without allowing for daily food, or spending money or shopping . . . .so, yes I think you could probably get it for that amount if you shop around and plan carefully :) although Im sure those who have been there will confirm that or not

wow.

that is cheap.

i got the quality inn for about 850 each, that was without passes.

i'm gonna keep looking.

Hi,

Check out First Choice, and I *think* it was sunshine.co.uk or it could well have been direct-holidays.co.uk as they had a trip for July to FLorida at the Quality Inn which were £695 per person.

I am just hesitant about going at that time, the things Ive heard in terms about the weather and it being so busy. But I only have a 3 week gap in which I can take holidays this year due to my son playing football at a high level and we have to be available for training . . .

thanks for the tip, cos i really wanna go but my girlfriend is more hesitant, cos of the money, i know she will love it though, just needs a push :cheers

i think the differnce between going orlado and going cancun all invlusive won't be that much difference in the end, especially as well will end up doing excursions and porobably spending money in clubs in cancun anyway.

well Ive just booked and spent some more time searching. I found a great price via holidayhypermarket.co.uk but when I spoke to them to ask a question she told me the holiday was via cosmos. So I went onto monarch holidays site (cosmos) and the holiday was a further £130 cheaper.

We have now paid £1130 for the hotel for 21 nights in total, I have also booked 21 day disney tickets, 14 day universal tickets for us both. Total holiday cost for one adult and one child (altho adult price) was £1902 :D :tup we fly out in 5 weeks.... :rofl
So, its cost us £315 each, including park tickets or without that its cost me £189 per week each :tup :tup
