We'd go there everytime if the tour operators went there more than they do, but its not easy finding a holiday there these days.
Richie
ps - weather in May is perfect - around 22 - 28 degrees ish
Also the shops in Paphos town are great (not Kato Paphos) and the market in Paphos is worth a good look around.
In Paphos town there are lots of little streets with interesting shops.
Paphos like a lot of Cyprus has lots of historical sites to visit if you like that sort of thing.
The mosaics by the harbour are amazing considering they are around 2000 years old.
Tombs of the Kings is fascinating as well.
I agree with Liakada about Paphos
I would advocate somewhere to stay about 1/2 a mile or so out of the Harbour area - It will be reasonably quiet then but close enough to walk in or get the local cheap bus in.
Bar Street is the only blot on the landscape but is easy enough to avoid or just walk through. We are not talking Ayia Nappa here!
I agree that you need to go up to the "real" Paphos once or twice, away from the seafront to see the best of the shops.
We love Larnaca, it has everything you could ever need, either as a holiday destination or as somewhere to live (hopefully, someday!)
Richie, have you thought about DIYing your holidays?
I now do DIY every year, with excellent results.
This year we are having a 2 bedroom semi-detatched house with garden in Larnaca for week 2 at £168.00 Sterling and a 2 bedroom detatched house with garden and pool in Pissouri for week 1 at £450.00CY. All found via t'internet.
Also, in May everywhere should still be green, not having been scorched by the summer sun. Lovely.

thanks for all your replys. youve be a great help. i will go on direct holidays site and see what bargins i can find.
I agree that Larnaca has a fabulous marina and promanade but it is very busy with local traffic and although we visit it often on holiday we would not wish to spend the whole of out holiday there.
But everyone has their own opinion its up to you for me Protaras. Ayai Napa or Pernera all next to each other and fabulous beaches if you want that.
I'll go along with Elizabeth on this one. Protaras and Pernera are great.
Thanks for the tip Mark - its a good idea, but a package still works out so much cheaper - we can still get the bus to Larnaca from Protaras/Ayia Napa, so we still get to visit. If flights weren't so expensive its an option we'd definitely take up.
Just as a matter of interest, how much are you paying for a package? Is it SC or B&B?its a good idea, but a package still works out so much cheaper
Although it is not a massive amount, I've done a comparison with similar holidays and I am saving in excess of £100 each (i.e. £200 for the 2 of us for 2 weeks.) That's about 70 Leons and Brandy Sours!!
Mark
We usually do self catering and (after much negotiation and playing them off against each other) we can usually get 2 weeks for about £250 each.
the other thing is that we fly from Brum (its on our doorstep so its very convenient and only £6 in a taxi), but it is a more expensive airport to fly from. As such the cheapest return flight I've ever been quoted is £180 each (when we did an agrotourism holiday a couple of years ago - which was terrific!).
Maybe you can still advice on a good comparison, but at the moment we just think if we can get flight & board for £500, its probably cheaper than separate flight and accommodation deals. Unless of-course, you know different (was that from "That's Life"?)
regards,
Richie
I think it was That's Life.
£500 fo 2 for 2 weeks is a very good price, especialy as our flights alone, from just up the M/A42 from your departure point, are £200 each.
My problem is my job. I have to book well in advance.
We have the advantage over you, in as much as my step-daughter takes us the 10 minute drive to Donington, for free.
Mark
Thanks Mark anyway - its still something we'll give some thought to in the future (either when we have more money or when flight prices come down)
when flight prices come down
Probably more chance of finding rocking horse sh errr poo.
There is talk of prices going up due to an "Eco tax". £40 has been mentioned.
Where do you find those fantastic prices from on the net i can't find anything that cheap thanks
On flights the wife just went back to the UK and it cost £120 return even had a meal, so even from this end (notoriously difficult) you can find cheap flights.
Jim was that CY pounds or Sterling ? the flights to Paphos seem to be more available than to Larnaca it seems to sell out very quickly
If you look on http://www.airflights.co.uk you can get an idea of prices and you can leave it set at all airports from UK click the dates at the top to move up or down, Next Saturday 14 nights to Larnaca are coming in approx £190ish only 2 weeks ago the same flights were well over £300 each, but you take a chance if you wait as the flights might go, you only need to click the date up a week or see and see the sharp increase in the prices for the school holidays, scandalous.
CYP £s sterling is a thing of the past!
