If you have a BT landline you can get an International Friends and Family add-on for 99p a month which can be cancelled or re-subscribed to any time - no minimum period. We use this to call an Indian mobile which gives a reduced rate of 9p per minute instead of the standard cost of about 50p per minute.

hi you call this number 08448615959 and they say welcome etc then they ask you to put in the number you are calling with the code which is 0091 then you press the hash key. but it will talk you through what you have to do. :)

Thanks guys sounds good so far. I dont have a BT line im with talktalk.

Anyone know if the person reciEving the call has to pay ?

also any cheaper way to text would be great as well.

Dialling using a talktalk line is exactly the same as using one provided by BT. You just pay your initial local call rate then it's about a penny a minute after that (costs about 25p for 20mins).
There's no charge at the other end.

If you Google 'cheap calls to India' you will get lots of sites offering internationl call offers. You need to find one that offers 'no set up fee' 'no account' etc. All you need to do is dial their number (08......) and then follow the instructions to dial the number in India (including mobiles). Your normal bill (BT, Talk Talk etc.) will show the 08........ number dialled and the charge not the subsequent Indian number, the person you call pays nothing. I too have Talk Talk but have done this from BT too.

I've not used this for a while but the number I used to call was 0844 861 2525, just tried it and they still say 1p per minute but did not go any further. Their web site is: http://www.telesavers.co.uk/

Hope this works and helps.

go onto the moneysavingexpert.com - Martyn Lewis's site - it's got loads of money saving tips, he's got an international call checker on there, just look for the country you want to call and it will give you the cheapest price - India was 0.5p per minute not long ago and that was to a mobile!
