Looking to go to Algarve this year, can anyone tell me where those beaches are with cliffs you see on tv and on 'One Foot in the Algarve'. They look beautiful. There are huge rock formations on the beaches too, does anyone know what I mean. Also needs to not too comercialised resort. Thanks....
Rhonda
The ones I know best are the beautiful coves just to the west of Albufeira. There are lots, all within a 20 minute drive - including Arrifes, Sao Rafael, Coelha and Castelo. Further west between Armacao de Pera and Carvoeiro there are more, including Senhora da Rocha and Marinha. There are fantastic beaches all along the coast so the best thing is to hire a car and visit as many as you can but I warn you a fortnight won't be enough - and like most of us you'll be back for more!
Hiring a car and exploring the lovely little coves is half the fun for us. We have found loads of very beautiful and quiet beaches along the entire coast. Pack the car with a coolbox with drinks and lunch and off you go.
For my money Coelha and round about that area is our favourite, dont know why , just a nice relaxed beach. The cliffs etc are pretty much all the way along the coast. A nice walk is the clifftop one between Albufeira and Praia D'Oura. Only takes about 40 mins and has some great views.

Your gonna be spoilt for choice.
One of the most photographed beaches on the Algarve, appearing in every holiday brochure I've ever seen, is the Praia Donna Ana, just west of Lagos; this is a small beach backed by rust-coloured steep cliffs and with rock formations just offshore - a gorgeous, picturesque little beach !
Don't know whether you've ever seen a t.v. series called "Sunburn " ( with Michelle Collins and George Leighton ) originally shown on ITV and now incessantly repeated on Sky Travel - well, this was filmed on location in and around Lagos - in fact, the cast and crew held their end-of-filming "wrap" party at Stevie Ray's Blues and Jazz bar in Lagos.
There are a variety of beaches in Lagos, from small, hidden coves to 4km. stretches of sand, but, anywhere along the Algarve coast, you're bound to find beaches that you'll fall in love with-but be warned - they're addictive and you'll find yourself being pulled back there year after year!!
Sagres is absolutely right in fact the further west of Lagos you go virtually every beach is backed by beautiful cliffs. Where poor Victor had a meal is between Luz and Burgau on the coast road, you can pop in and have a meal as well. Further along the coast is Boca del rio, "Furnace beach" at Figueria, Zavial, Ingrina just to name a couple.Lagos would be a perfect spot not too quiet or too noisy. Hope this helps you make a decision.
D. Ana beach was beautiful. I think that is what you are referring to.
