As the answers and general info' was so helpful on my last travel query I wonder if I could ask another ?
We will be catching the 18.34 St Pancras--Gatwick train 17/01/12 as the final leg of the journey to Gatwick and have treated ourselves to First Class tickets. As we will have the holiday suitcases and I don't fancy legging it down a platform full of late commuters to the F/C end of the train I thought it would be helpful to know which end of the train (Bedford /Brighton) the F/C would be so we could be at that end of the platform. I did the obvious and contacted First Capital Connect but they cannot tell me as they don't know which way the train will be running. Is there any way to find out if First will be at the front or rear ? Would it be announced over the platform speakers ?
Any ideas ?
Cheers and thanks.
Brian
When we travel first class via train we just ask the station masters that are on duty. always found them very helpful and knowledgable
small first class area at one end of the 4 coach set, the newer ones have it at both ends.
The bottom line is that you'll have to look for it but there will be more than one area and it should be clearly marked. The information screens may say how many coaches the train is.
On London suburban services the best people to ask are the regular commuters, station staff are rare and mostly on security duties at the gates.
Don't build your expectations up here, FCC First Class is no better than standard class on intercity routes.
First Capital Connect use two slightly different types of train so I can't be sure. Both types have 4 coaches and are normally run coupled in pairs as 8 coaches.
