Tansas is a big supermarket, we went to bodrum and there it is behind the bus station, has got most things that you'll want. Not really sure what is the best to buy, thou with turkey being very hot i imagine that UHT milk will be best.

Buy small carton/plastic bottle to start with, it all depends on taste. No point buying huge it does go off once opened.

If you buy milk at the larger supermarkets you have a choice of UHT (these vary in taste) and pasturised (look in the chiller cabinets and do not confuse with Ayran).
Local shops will only have UHT.
If you go to the Thursday market you can buy fresh from the cow/goat - tastes great but you must boil and cool to be on the safe side.

:D Elaine, where are you??? I am sure you answered a similar one a few weeks ago and named the milk that is fresh and most like ours. I forgot to make a note of it so I am watching this one too!

The Turkish word for milk is sut. I usually buy the long life in the cartons, but then again I only have milk in my coffee.

Don't buy ayran, which is a yoghurt, water and salt drink - definitely an acquired taste and not something I'd want to pour onto my cornflakes!!

When you are buying your milk, don't forget to check the dates on the carton, you will very often find out of date stuff still for sale in the chiller cabinets!!

Icim milk is ok and tastes similar to ours, coffee and tea tasted the same with it and the kids never noticed a difference on their brekkie. You can get this from the supermarkets and from local shops.

Could anybody tell me which milk tastes much the same as our semi skimmed? Our hotel is just over the road from Gima supermarket so any suggestions I think would be easily enough to get hold of. Last year I had a nightmare getting milk for my sons cereal because he wouldnt eat the brekky from the hotel :( I went through about 5 different brands and still couldnt find one that tasted ok :? , any suggestions would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Pinar is the best, dont buy anything in cartons as it's long life! Ours comes in plastic bottles with a red top and according to "she who must be obeyed" is the only stuff worth drinking!

If you want semi skimmed, they only come in cartons I am afraid.. As tokmak said, its either the words "az yagli" or "yarim yagli" you need to look for on the carton.

:?: Can you get skimmed milk, which I prefer in my coffee,in Icmeler ?

If you are buying the Pinar brand, skimmed is the pink one, which would say "yagsiz" on the carton.

Just make sure you dont make the same mistake as my sister,we brought some ayran(i think thats what its called)as my husband likes it,she thought it was milk and poured it on her cornflakes,i wasnt there to see her face as she had a mouthful.

I like ayran but I wouldn't recommend you put it on you cereal!!! It's yoghurt and salt!!! A strange mixture but actually quite good if you have a hangover!!!

We always drink Pinar when out there - Az Yagli (semi Skimmed) We also went through all the brands of disgusting tasting milk before we found this one!!!
