Hi Phil

Might help you to get more of a response if you let us know how old you are, what you prefer in terms of nightlife, beach based or culture, B&B or AI.

Turkey has lots to offer! A little more info would solicit a more educated response.

Am sure you will enjoy Turkey!

Hi
I'm 42. Interested more in general entertainment as opposed to Bars/clubs. Want a beached based holiday but also interested in sightseeing a little. If you could give me some general idea of resorts and also which places to avoid. Cheers

Hi Phil

Lynwestie's shout of Olu Deniz is definitely worth considering, also take a look at Bitez, on the Bodrum Peninsula.

We are in our mid-40's and visit Turkey regularly for beach based holidays with a little culture and sightseeing thrown in.

Both the above resorts are what I would rate as middling - ie not too busy, not too quiet and not too British. In my opinion, ideal for what you describe, and also for anyone visiting Turkey for the first time. Hope that this helps.

Thanks very much

Can you recommended any self catering accomodation or BB
in the places you suggested

Don't suppose you know which travel agents don't charge single supplement other than Olympic as they have accomodation in those resorts.

Bitez would be my suggestion ( but I have never been to Olu so am prejudiced!) Try the Small World Hotel..As the name suggests it is small, quiet, friendly and just back from the beach. Loads of places to visit on the peninsula and the people are so friendly.

Good luck and have a great time wherever you decide to go.

what about booking a DIY

olu deniz is lovely and there are some great little hotels there from bb , i dont think theres any sc unless you go to hisaronu about 1 1/2 miles up the road, more lively but not next to the beach

karbel hotel, asena beach both get great reviews

turk, montebello, majestic are fine, probably best to read some reviews and decide

I'm watching this posting with interest. I've only been to Turkey twice before, once to Armutalan just outside Marmaris. i really liked it because I liked the fact that it was fairly quiet but I could get a Dolmus into Marmaris where we loved walking along the harbour. We also went on a few boat trips out of Marmaris which partner and I & kids all loved. In 2005 we stayed in Ovacick, visited Olu Deniz, Hisoranu and Fethyie. i like it but the experiece might have been coloured by the fact that we and everyone else who attended, Imight add, ended up with awful food poisoning from the barbecue on Olu Deniz beach one night :yuck
We have always enjoyed the Greek islands too but we are tempted by Turkey again this year so I'm watching other people's suggestions with interest. Has anyone any advice about Torba for instance?
We're a family of 6 Partner & I, a12 year old girl and a 9 year old girl & our 17 year old son and his girlfriend. we all hate karaoke and organised structured entertainment but like live bands anyway...
