Please can you help me. I am looking for next year and am considering Turkey. We will be going early June so not the height of the season. We would like somewhere with some local charm, a nice beach, good amount of restaurants/tavernas. Not interested in nightclubs. We would like somewhere with some history, perhaps ruins or museums (not necessarily in the resort but where we could go on trips).
Any advice greatly appreciated.
try a turkish village holiday.Hisaronu koy is 15 mins from marmaris and has several local, traditional turkish restaurants. there are several historic sites around, knidos and ephesus are the popular ones. you can arrange tours or hire a car.
Cirali is one of the last remaining villages that has not been taken over by mass tourism. You can easily rent a car for daily trips to surrounding areas like Antalya, Termessos, fish restaurants of Ulupinar, Kekova ( sunken city of Simena ), Kas, Kalkan, Arykanda etc.
Also daily boat trips are nice to the surrounding islands. If you like to hike Cirali to Ulupinar is part of the Lycian Way.
Cirali only has a few quiet bars playing turkish folk music and restaurants on the beach and in the village center. No discos, or big hotels just nice liitle family run hotels and pansiyons.

akyaka is lovely its only 45 mins from dalaman airport, lovey scenery, beach ,great for walks. theres a few bars and restaurants, boat trips, but very laid back and famous for its architecture, traditional turkish small resort, this isnt available with the big tour operators either so you get a nice class of tourist
Akyaka looks lovely going to Icmeler next week how far is it from there and would it be easy to get to.
I really love Icmeler and keep returning but my hubby has a big birthday comming up next year and I would like to take him somewhere special for a few days and this looks perfect.

Go to Datca. There are many blue flag beaches and stunning scenery. Enough restaurants and shops for me and we eat out every night, everything opens in April/May. You can get a boat trip down the peninsula to Knidos or hire a car and drive down through mountain scenery. 2 and a bit hours from Dalaman. Plenty of nice hotels search on Google. Hotels will organise your transfer expect to pay about £70 each way. No mass UK tourism there, no big hotels, 2 tame discos, a couple of turkish music bars, lots of lovely walks, a pretty harbour. A few UK ex pats around and a few UK holiday home owners but mostly Turkish families. If you want more life the ferry goes to Bodrum at least 3 times a week in low season leaves 09.00 and returns to Datca by 1900. Takes 2 hours. Bus goes to and from Marmaris every hour takes just over an hour. If you want to go with a tour operator Sunsail go there and I think Simply Turkey and Hidden Escapes. It's easy to 'do it yourself' though.
its about 20 miles from marmaris so a few miles further to icmeler, if you have been to marmaris before i can tell you approx where it is, where the road turns left at some lights to marmaris after about 45 mins from airport its about a mile from there, so straight ish road from marmaris, there is a dolmus every day to akyaka and back, its a beautiful place, we have just bought an apt there and will be going in july for 2 weeks first time staying at our apt, prices there in restaurants also cheaper than icmeler/marmaris, if i can help any more let me know

Yes! finally I'm classy!!
Seriously, though, Akyaka is a beautiful resort if you are not interested in tourist shops and lots of bars A further couple of sites may be of interest

or, if you want a bit more nightlife, it might be worth considering Turunc Have a look at http://www.turunc-village.com They have a virtual tour which gives you a good idea of the area

Thanks for link. We arrive next Friday cant wait to see Akayak it looked lovely on the link you posted.
