Just looking at this topic and there is a sence of deva ju. Just got back from booking a holiday with Thomson - We search online and the go into the shop. Thomson or TC. Prefer the face to face and if we do not use the shops we will lose them - and they can be important. Which is where the deva ju comes in.
Back in 93 we had booked with the local travel agent. Internet bookings were a thing of the future. Whilst away wifes father died and we had problems sorting out with the insurance. Usual thing they were asking us questions we could not answer. Well we were 2,000 miles away. Rang the travel agent back in the UK and explained the problem. Within a matter of hours they had sorted everything out for us. The personal touch is always best.

We look on line then get them to price match in the shop, generally Thompson or First Choice. Try to avoid TC if we can after a bad post holiday customer service experience also find them more expensive.
Do everything DIY now, Thomson & TC cant even get close. Booked 2 weeks AI in Lanzarote in August this year, flying Ryanair and booked hotel through Hotelopia, total price over £700 cheaper than Thomson & TC online
