I did wildernest a couple of years ago (there should be a thread on here somewhere). It's the most fantastic place. The rooms are lovely with the biggest comfiest bed that I've ever slept on in Goa. Rooms were big and all en-suite - each room is like a small self contained unit and the floor to ceiling windows are fantastic for viewing the wildlife. The rooms are located in thick forest so to just lie on your bed looking out at the birds and reptiles makes you feel like you are lying on the forest floor!!
The food was excellent and the staff wonderful, they all come from the nearby village and as part of your stay you get to visit the village and all of the staff's families.
They have an infinity pool up there which is suspended overlooking the valley beneath and the ghats in the distance. There are all kinds of activities should you wish to take part - or not.......the choice is yours.
It's just the most breathtaking serene place, a world away from the tourist belt.........I loved it!!!

I'm not very keen on snakes (I noticed you mentiond reptiles!), how close do you get to them?

Didn't see any snakes up there but I'm sure there must be hundreds of them hiding in the forest. I was quite worried about them too and asked one of the guys up there what would happen if a guest was bitten - he re-assured me that the doctor in a nearby village has anti-venom just in case. Not sure if he said that to make me feel better???. The reptiles that I saw were much less scary - lizards and frogs only!! We also saw lots of different birds, they have an area set up with books detailing different birds and they leave a blackboard so that you can fill in details of which birds you spotted, with times, location etc. We also loved watching the bats skimming the pool at sunset, it really is a fantastic place. They were building more rooms when I was there so it's probably a bit more populated by tourists now, (only six of us there on our second day). They also had plans to build a massage centre on site but not sure if they've done that yet?
Hope you take the opportunity whilst in Goa, I'm sure you'll love it.

We booked directly via the web-site and made our own way there by taxi but they do have a free transfer bus that is included in the price.

Hi Cartman,

This place really is something special but not sure if it'd be ideal for your dad. We stayed in the forest rooms - and had quite a hike up some man made muddy steps to get to the rooms. It was especially difficult at night because the lighting wasn't too great. They were building more rooms (valley rooms I think they were called) but not sure if access would be any better? Maybe best to e-mail them and ask any questions regarding accessibility etc.

Thanks for all the info golden flip flop, I've finally booked it (snakes or no snakes ! ) What sort of clothes should we take on the trip, long trousers and trainers I would guess, but am probably wrong!

I am trying to talk my wife into wildernes trip,a snake problem there and all,she only has to here a snake charmer and shes gone other way.I would like to go on the floating palace ,any one been on it,is it romantic,any mosi problems,and how much,thanks

Nanette, I'm soooo jealous - must try to get back there myself this season.
Clothing / Footwear, would recommend sturdy flat shoes ( a lady when we were there had platform sandals??!?!?) - I had the flat rubber sandals with velcro fastening straps (buy them in sports shops at home or get them over here). Loose long sleeved tops and baggy trousers but don't forget your bikini and sarong for lounging around that fab pool!!
Take plenty of mossie cream and after bite stuff and also take Imodium, vomitstop tablets, rehydration sachets etc just in case.
I hope you have a fantastic time, I want a full report on your return!

Im going to Goa for the 7th time at the end of Jan and am visiting Wildernest. Can anyone tell me what type of clothes I should take, and in the light of recent malaria cases, in Goa do I need a mosquito net?

We've booked to go there mid-February. According to the information they've sent me with my confirmation you need a pair of walking shoes, long-sleeved cotton wear, swimwear (mandatory for using the affinity pool ~ I think some people have skinny-dipped at some point!!). They also recommend you wear 'neutral' coloured clothing, so as not to disturb the wildlife. They also mention to take a good torch with extra batteries, personal medical kit and suggest a light sweater or jacket for evenings.

Remember you are a few thousand feet up!

How much is it per night and how long does it take to get there, I think my husband would really like it there.

Hi girlie-girl. We've booked Valley View rooms at a cost of 8000 rps per night, per room. Expensive as far as India goes, but the experience is supposed to be wonderful. There are less expensive rooms available further down the mountain.
