hi jf goan,

my girlfriend and i are off to goa tomorrow and can't wait !!
we've booked a night at wildernest next week, don't know much more apart from what we've seen on their website.

the only comments i've read are the ones that have been posted on here...am sure it's a fab place, so idylic and away from it all.

one word of warning, payment to them is a bit tricky, you have to pay in advance to a holding bank, who then have to release the cash to a bank in mumbai, who then issue the cash to the resort...a well known high street bank advised me against this, so will be arranging payment the day after we arrive (which should mean they get the cash within a couple of days...fingers crossed).

give it a go, am sure it's worth every rupee !!!

thanks for that - yes it seems good - and yes the payment process seems a bit odd.

Nevermind- we'll see how it goes and let you all know.

I'm starting in MUnbai, then off to Palolem- can't wait!

I've booked 2 days there. It's too late to transfer money so I'm doing it in Goa. It's also cheaper to pay in rupees. US Dollars is more expensive and I would imagine doing an international transfer is costly.

By Indian standards it is costly to stay there but it looks as though it is well organised. The owner and management appear to be professional enough.

All in all this looks amazing!!

I did Wildernest last season (see my previous post for details which Fiona has kindly linked). It's fantastic and definitely worth every ruppee!!
I booked via e-mail but didn't pay any money at all until the day we checked out. Sounds like they have re-vamped there reservation procedure. If you are unsure of paying directly in what does seem to be a bit of risky manner, why not book through Footprints in Candolim, they probably charge a booking fee but it's possibly the safest bet.

I was wondering if anyone has ever stayed at or visited this resort. It does sound very idyllic and is tempting to visit.

We were there in early January. I do have an email address for reservations and they have always been very helpful - why don't you try it

We did enjoy the experience although while we were there is was fully booked and not quite as peaceful as it might have been. The views were stunning and although we did not see a great deal if wildlife it was a relaxing place to stay.

The lodge was excellent with spectacular views over the Ghats and the other lodges were laid out in such a way that you could not see them so we had total privacy.

The food was "ethnic" but not totally to our taste. We absolutely love curry but their curries and dhal were extremely watery. The only Western choice for breakfast other than fruit) was bread rolls and eggs. As much as we love spicy food I do not want it 3 meals a day. Perhaps some cereal would have been possible? My husband's scrambled egg came up as "masala scrambled eggs" - we did not ask for this.

All in all a lovely experience but we would probably not go back. If you want total peace and quiet it is probably best, in our experience, to avoid the Christmas/New Year period. I appreciate that they have to make a living but when we spoke to the wildlife ranger he agreed with us that it was better when there were no large parties if your ambition was to see some actual wildlife.

The swimming pool was fantasic and when the crowds had finally left after lunch on our 2nd day it was truly peaceful. Perhaps if we had arrived a couple of days later we might have had a more positive view about the whole experience.

Value for money? Well because we stayed 2 nights the transfer costs to and from the resort from our hotel in Candolim was included so it probably was. The journey took 2 hours there, and 1.5 hours back. We did meet one British lady on our 2nd night who had taken a private taxi who "got lost" - the journey took a staggering 5 hours and cost her 40 pounds sterling so if you are going I would recommend that you pay Wildernest to pick you up at a fraction of this. It is not an easy place to find if you are not used to the area.

Many thanks for that. I wonder if you could let me know how much yu paid and whether you booked direct or with a tour operator etc.

I have been quoted 6500rupees per night for me and my wife in the cheaper 'forest view' lodge. Includes all meals and guided tours etc.

What did you think of the tours? Were they well organised? Do you have to be fit and would we need to take any special clothing or footwear.

What was it like at sunset? Was there any 'entertainment' in the evening? What were the staff like?

Was the accomodation good?

I notice they have a bar. What did they stock in the bar and what were the prices like?

were there any unseen 'extras'?

they have told me via an email that if we book for two nights, three days they will provide complimentary transport both ways. we will be staying in Colva.
I would appreciate your views on all this. I was thinking of spending our 25th anniversary there at the beginning of March this year.

if you prefer to email me **pm for email address***

regards

Hi Pedrogooner,
I did a posting on this ages ago. If you go to the search button near to the top of the page and type in Wildernest in the "Search for Keywords" box, you should be able to find it.
Highly recommended!!!

Hi Everyone

I've done all the usual tours in Goa and was thinking of going on th wildernest tour with footprints.

I've had a look at previous postings, and have a bit of an idea of what to expect

Can anyone let me know what the rooms are like, and if they have their own toilet/shower! Any more info greatly appreciated!

Thanks
