Expect temperatures to be near that between 12pm and 5pm, Find a bar with good shade and drink plenty of water the first 3 days, I like yourself hate the heat which can be unbearable at times, Most people sit outside in the shade and generally A/cs are not on in the bars until darkness falls, Have a nice holiday.

Last June, wow! :sun2 it was hot! I went with my fiance and i'm good with the sun but i couldn't cope on the boat trips, just drank lots of water and got in the shade for 5 mins whenever I could, you end up getting used to it, but just keep refreshed, you'll be fine!

Good tip is to go into shops if it gets to hot ,most of them have A/C , it is great to get a blast of cold air from the unit which is usually situated above the doors. There are plenty of ways to keep cool.I remember years ago i hated the heat and would not go abroad because of it ,now i love it and cannot wait untill June comes around so i can get back into it .Go for it you will love it.
Boat trips can be really hot if you sit on the top deck out in the open .:sun2 :tup

Stay by the pool during the day in the shade then you can just pop in and out as you get to hot.
If you do any trips make sure you have plenty of water, sun cream and a hat, you do tend to get used to it.
We go around the shops during the evening when tremp has dropped slightly.
As already mentioned dont go on top deck on boat trips, you will bake. :yikes

We go in July/August and last year was the hottest it had ever been some days 50+ when the usual is about 45. My son and myself are very fair skinned and use SPF 50 every day. Son wears a t-shirt in the pool and keeps popoing in and out of the shade/pool and we all drink plenty of water. You do cope with it but be sensible and you and you will be fine. Di.

I too was there in June/July last year when it was August temperatures (and then some on a couple of days!). As I like to get a tan and not spend all my time in the shade I found it a nice relief to sit in the paddling pool.

Yes, as already said it is very, very hot but I wouldn't let that stop you from going to a fantastic and beautiful country. We go every year in August.

Take on board all of the other tips: hats, cream, water spray.

We always go for lunch about 12, somewhere airconditioned, and then back for a siesta till 2/3ish - back to an airconditioned room.

There is always a breeze coming off the sea down at beach and there are umbrellas to sit under, this is very comfortable, and you can have a quick dip too.

Sometimes we lounge in hotel reception areas/bars which are all cool marble and, again, air conditioned. We play cards, read papers/books or go on the internet till it gets cool enough to go outside.

I'm sure you will work it out and have a fab time :)

I'm off to Ovacik in early July, I expect to spend most of my time in the pool :)

i know this sounds stupid but the best way ive found to stay cool is to half blow up an air bed then lay on it in the kiddies pool and read a book you get a few funny looks but who cares your on holiday by the way im 48

I agree that is a good way to chill, but make sure you have high factor on as you can be kidded into thinking its not to hot and get burned.
Dont worry you will be ok, just be sensible, I stay in the shade most of the time except when gettin from place to place always come home with a healthy tan :sun2

we usually go in june and september, its hot then, drink plenty of water wear lots of high factor sun cream and a big hat and just enjoy yourself it will be lovely,if you do get some sunburn, just go to a local supermarket and buy some natural youguart, slap lots on the affected area especially before bed and by morning all the stinging soreness will have gone, remember lots and lots of water, have a great time xx

In those temperatures, I wouldnt step outside without taking a bottle of water with me. Even if the water gets warm, at least the kids wont dehydrate, which is easily done.

Help! I'm starting to have 2nd thoughts. I've booked Bitez for start of July. I want very much to holiday in Turkey but am restricted to July or August and have put it off for a few years because of fears of very high temps. Took the bull by the horns this Jan & booked, but having read this thread I don't want to go somewhere where I've to spend all day hiding from the sun.
Have been to both Crete & Rhodes & thought they were on the limit temperature-wise. Is Turkey likely to be even hotter?
Might postpone this trip for a few years when I might eb able to go May/June/Sept.
Any thoughts most welcome as just received invoice for balance of holiday & have only put down £50 deposit. What do you think?? :que

Toastedmallow lol, sorry, a very apt name for the post! :rofl

It would really be a shame to cancel it. We went to Olu Deniz during last June's heatwave, our first visit to Turkey where the temps were the usual for August. We had children with us then aged 4 - 10 and we really didn't find it a problem. Had I known before hand I would have worried myself silly especially as my mum had just been diagnosed with skin cancer and that was very much on my mind but both we and the children coped extremely well. Of course they were covered in cream, hats and at times t-shirts and when sitting made sure they were in the shade but not one of us were slightly burnt or were ill with the sun. Keeping sensible and hydrated was the key and of course shopping only in the evenings, but other than having to forget the make-up and hair straighteners it wouldn't deter me going again in that heat. In fact we are booked for the same two weeks this year :sun2

Put it this way, I would rather go in August, than not go to Turkey at all. :sun2

You will be fine. I agree with sarong, I would rather go then than not at all. Have been end of July before and am going at a similar time this year. Yes it's hot, but everyone works out their own strategy to cope with it.

I agree with what nuttynet said, first thing I buy when I get there is a blow up bed to lie on in the water, keeps you really cool.I was in Benidorm last week temps were averaging 75 to 80 and I had to keep getting in the shade, pool was too cold!.last year in Turkey in June it was in the 50s and the bed is great.

If you could cope with Greece, you will be fine in Turkey.

The freaky temperatures last June made it so we didn't have the energy to walk around much in the day, but then I don't do a lot of that anyway. It's not the time for spending days walking around ruins but for chilling out it'll be just fine.

Thanks everyone for all your helpful advice :thanks Just to let you know we paid the balance today so we're going...........can't wait now the decision has been made.
Hope Bitez is as good as everyone on these boards says!
