Get a professional in to do it as it will have to have papers confirming that it was installed under their regs.

Who will I have to have the papers for? By the way I AM a professional in England :D

Probably for your house insurance! It can be most frustrating having to get a local professional in when you are a professional at that craft in your home country, but it's by no means a rare occurrence - one of the joys of living abroad I'm afraid, speaking as an experienced former Secondary School teacher in the UK who has not been able to teach locally because my qualifications are not recognised by the French state, and becoming requalified would lead to my having to move because the state places their teachers all over France!

My husband is also a fully qualified electrician in England but he would still not be able to install any 'new' electrical items in our house here because like in England now inspection certificates have to be issued by a registered Spanish electrician.

Sorry mate but it is the law. If it was that easy he would be living and working here instead of working in England still.

That's not completely true. Certification MUST be stamped by a spanish person, but a spanish person does not have to actually do the work.

But for what it is going to cost just to get a 'Spanish' person to sign the work off, may as well get the work done by them in the first place. They charge through the nose just for 'Inspection Certs' here.

agreed it's not cheap.... but it does weigh itself out if you play the game!

Not sure if it's the same in Tenerife as it is here in Lanzarote, but while it used to be relatively simple to have a spanish electrician sign off work and give you the needed buletin, it has changed recently. The new building regs that came in force are being followed rigorously, and it is becoming much more difficult to find someone to agree to put their name to work they haven't actually done.
