You will need a work permit +extended visa/residency permit from the Turkish Authorities.

You could choose to be a holiday rep, in which case you will need to make contact with holiday companies which service Turkey. If you have any particular place in mind make contact and sort out the relevant paperwork.

In order to recieve a work permit you will need a letter from an employer.

Remember you wont be paid much, but Accomodation and food is usually provided as part of any job be it privatley or via a travel company.

It probably isnt as fun working out there as you would imagine, especially when its very hot. Its not a holiday if your going to work, keep that in mind.

Hi,

Just in the interest of ensuring you are not looking at this with a "rose-tinted-view". Just be aware that any work that you undertake will probably mean you will be working long hours, 7 days a week, and not a typical 9-5 job you get over here.

You will need to make contact with an employer who will need to provide you with a letter. I would then assume you will contact the Turkish Embassy who will advise you on the application process which I think needs to be done no later than 1 month before your planned arrival date in Turkey.

I dont know of any websites, your best bet would be to approach employers whilst over there.

Hi :)
Just making sure.

I would also look into health plans, im not sure if holiday insurance would give you cover if working abroad, although im sure some other members of the forum can give you advice on this.

Good Luck, and if you do decide to do it let us know where you are working and how you are finding it, im sure everyone will be interested to know.

hiya, just thought id share my epereince with you! Last year i worked in marmaris, went on hol n decided just to stay, took 2 weeks before i found a job then i got one on a boat, bearing in mind i obviously didnt av a work permit so did take a chance and when visa needed renewed i went to rhodes for the day, my boss on the boat go this friend to give me ticket so i only paid the tax!but it was hard going working there,so different to being on holiday lol!me and my friend, a girl who i met there worked 4 days a week on the dalyan boat trips, we started at 8am and worked anything right upto 10pm at night, yes we maybe got a couple of hours break on boat when passengers got off but by the time you cleaned teh boat agen and had lunch there really wasnt much time left! 4 days a week for upto 14 hrs for 600ytl a month, doesnt get you far believe me, fortunately for me my boyfriend, now hubby!was manager in a restaurant so i ate and drank a lot of times for free which was just as well cos my rent was 450ytl and dolmus amounted to about 50 ytl over teh month leaving just 100ytl to live on, i did end up using a fair bit of my savings. this year my friend is back there working again on our boat but this year its 6 days a week......i was offered again but decided not to cos im married now and trying to get back on my feet financially after using my money out there!business is so slow and she isnt working much the now so in some ways im glad i stayed but lets hope it picks up. Overall despite what i say it was a great expereince and i wouldnt change it for the world, if i could have afforded it i would have gone back again, more freedom and a more relaxed atmosphere plus some sun :D just if you do go make sure you are prepared and everything!good luck xxx

we are doing the same and are going to turkey in 3 weeks, checking out schools as we are thinking about moving next year, so ill let you know what i find out, i know they have 12 weeks off for summer and a weeks holiday in jan for their religious celebrations and no other holidays off like we have here. also ive been told some schools wont accept children that dont speak the language, ill find out more. re weather in dec we have been a few times and its very cold at night, winter coats are needed but in the day it can vary from about 15-20 ,some days we had t shirts on and others light coats. rent depends on size of property you want and whether you want pool etc again im going to try and find out more, we are also going easter incase this is too early to find much out

school hours are 9 til 3 generally, hols are at Bayram times , new year and summer(three months!) they won't take kids in the schools unless they speak turkish. It is a hell of a difference here, so please don't burn bridges without trying it first.
Rents in Marmaris are quite expensive, especially for Brits... starting from 500 ytl per month for something average.

chelsea boy is that all schools or just the private ones, as ive been told by a english lady living in turkey that the state schools accept none speaking turkish children, its just the private ones that dont. can i ask how old your kids were when you moved to turkey and have they settle in fine, my daughter will be 8 by the time we move there and im hoping we havent left it too late for her to learn turkish easily and settle in fine
