It shouldn't be necessary to do anything apart from ensuring that the passport is up to date.

As an EU citizen, she can work and live here with little problem. To work legally though she would need to be registered for tax and social security and be registered with the local town hall where she is staying. Where will it be by the way?

I would strongly urge her, and anyone coming here, to get this done by a local gestor (accountant, more or less) or by a good agency experienced at ensuring everything is above board. If she has a good employer most of this would be taken care of.

Thanks Andrew. I'm just worried that because she is just looking for short-term, seasonal work (she's back at school in September) - potential employers are not going to want the hassle of loads of paperwork. I think your advice about the Gestor is useful should she want to go to Spain/Mallorca on a longer-term basis in future.

You asked for advise - I hope you don't mind, but the best advise is to not let her go - she is too young at 17.

We see them all the time, coming in looking for work - I will not take on kids of that age, but unscrupulous employers will, they play on the fact that they are (generally) desperate for work, and pay them very little, and so they are always on the bread line.

I am the father of 4 grown up children, and in my opinion the peer pressure of fellow workers is not something that a 17 year old is likely to be able to resist.

She needs to wait at least another year, preferably another 4.

I do know what you mean but her situation is slightly different. She will be staying with her uncle who lives over there (so doesn't have board to worry about). She is in the middle of A levels (including Spanish) and a very nice Spanish family take her under their wings too (her Spanish is better than her uncles )- so she won't be unsupervised - in fact she'll have more adult supervision then she would over here. The work is purely spending money but I want to make sure if she does work, she works legally.

Would entirely agree with you if she was unsupervised though.
