No-one is suggesting
I think my examples , might suggest some are.
You take precautions walking in the UK , don't forget them just because you are
in Turkey.
That is all very well Wallbash. The O/P asked for advice and we all gave our views and i am quite sure if she follows all that advice and tips then she will be alright ,no point in going on holiday and having to look over her shoulder all the time .I am quite sure we all know that these things can happen in Turkey as it does in the Uk ,but i will stand by my statement that they do not happen as much over there.
To be honest I certainly feel much safer walking around Turkey than I do at home. There are no gangs of youths gathering on street corners, there is little drink fuelled violence, people are certainly merry but not generally aggresive. Can you say the same thing about most of our towns and cities in the UK
I think the advice to be given to anybody going anywhere on holiday (or let's face it, just out and about towns at home in the UK) is to be sensible and don't do anything that you don't feel comfortable with.
JAK xx
erm thanks for all your replies,im sure we will have a fantastic holiday and i will definately keep my wits about me just as i do here in the uk. i definately feel better from reading your replies and am looking forward to our holiday more than ever now. so thank you all very much
Peter
We would all echo that sentiment .
Sorry, I have to say, I feel safer in Olu Deniz than anywhere I have ever been. The resort is small and compact, resulting in everyone knowing each other. Within 24 hours of being there everyone will know your name, I know that sounds bizarre but it's true! I have never had any qualms about my daughter going off to bars with the locals, I do however worry myself sick when she goes in to town for a night out here, hope we have allayed any fears you had. Look forward to hearing all about your experience on your return! Which hotel are you staying in?
we will be staying in the karbel hotel.
thats a nice friendly hotel close to everthing im sure you will enjoy it
I have lived in a Turkish resort and in London and I know which one feels safer. I would never take a risk anywhere in the world and I would always advise any woman to take precautions wherever she is, I said all that in my original post.
Kedi
Did you read as carefully ?
your quote ...then saying that I am not advising caution ???? ( where)?
You have stated that you have lived both in London and Turkey ,
You feel safer in Turkey . I am not disputing that .
But the OP is from the UK and is in Turkey as a Tourist.
I feel that all the sentiments that are being posted are forgetting that we are
talking about a person , who cannot speak the local language
and if there was an incident , would have a greater problem than if she was
in the UK.
I suggest you re-read my first post and note the part where I say that "women should always take the same precautions as when they are at home."
Oh come on guys now your scareing me
hi bluey we have been to turkey 5 times and always found the people friendly and helpful we are off again in april me my wife and our thirteen year old daughter and have no fear its as everyone says do what you would do at home and you ll have a great holiday enjoy the country it it a graet place
i think as a first time tourist to the area it would surprise most how well the turkish speak english, as this is mainly a british resort area and in the schools now its taught as a second language but come out of the tourist area's you will need to speak a little turkish but thats all part of the fun of a holiday aboard
Like the OP, we've had a young family with us on all of our holidays to Turkey so far & this tends to dictate that you're likely to be back at your apartment by 9-10pm anyway....not that I've experienced anything out of order, later than that anyway.
As others have said, the occassional story in these magazines really grabs the headlines but they are the rare exceptions. Have a great time, in a great place. My in-laws went to OD last summer & loved it. We will probably head there on our next holiday, after we do Marmaris one last time this summer.
As others have said, the occasional story in these magazines really grabs the headlines
Always bear in mind that good news stories do not sell - bad news is a winner every time. Does not matter if it is not the real truth.
In all our years going on foreign holidays and walking where ever the fancy took us I have never been worried - except how to find the way back to the hotel at times. Only wish I could say the same here in the UK. Common sense is the rule everyone should follow.

Am sure [or at least I hope very much] that no one would base their views of life in Britain on what's shown on Jeremy Kyle's very popular TV show
Likewise with Take a Break's view of Turkish holiday experiences
Like everyone else has said already, do what you'd do at home and you'll have a great time like the rest of us
