They close on a Tuesday. Same day as Leila's down the road.
the Spice Garden has had some pretty bad reports on here.
I think Spike knows the people who run it and they are aware of some of the adverse comments.
We too had a very bad meal there some years ago and would not frequent it again - there are too many good places to eat.
Did you enjoy your holiday, by the way?
Polly
I wasnt going to let a little thing like a chest infection spoil things.
I had read reports on the Spice Garden but thought I would give it a try "mistake" No1.
as others have said "thousands of places to eat" and did I eat, prawns every day as well as as well as king crab and lobster
lez
crab and lobster once a week
We eat in the Big Banana frequently on our last visit in November and I had a very bad stomach on one occation but nit from the food. I had a soft drink with my meal and when they gave me the drink they put a straw in it which he had been holding, I did not think too much of it till I was very bad and relised he had beem massageing people all morning with veryious oils and things then held my straw in his hand.
Foxy's steakhouse: the steaks are real fillet steak, he only uses the best cuts of beef, never had a bad meal yet. The restaurant is up the lane towards the Highland Beach resort.
Another controversial one is the small chinese place on Baga road... Friends love it there, Shermina, Shermina's Dad love it, but I just don't get it! - I've never really enjoyed anything there... Sorry....
the worst food that i ever had in Goa was in a restaurant in coco beach, cant remember the name, but i asked for king prawns in a light batter with a dipping sauce. the food arrived and it looked good so i dipped the prawn and was eating it, it seemed awfully crunchy and i continued eating as the sauce was beautiful a piece of the prawn was out of my mouth and my wife said that it looked like a prawn leg. well the prawn was still in its shell, fried in the light batter. disgusting
Hi Bedford47, Totally agree with you about the steaks at Foxys they are superb and excelent value, certainly as good as I've ever had anywhere. The only downside I would say is the ambience, the place seems soul less compared to places like Casa Monalita or After8, however the staff are excellent also but last year I did get a bit fed up with the usual Beatles tracks.
Starlight - near Arpora - had the worst food poisoning - I think I got it from there as I was ill 24 hours later - campylobacter - I was off work for 6 weeks and was visited by my local eho. I can remember going to the toilet and looking into the kitchen - yuk. You cannot imagine how bad my flight back to the uk was - a monarch flight with bahrain detour with a horrendous dose of the s**ts
Hotxbun you poor thing it must have been a nightmare on the long flight home I remember one night having a meal in a place in candolim not sure of the name but a rock singer was on and it was a sunday night ...I got chicken dish and all I can say is it looked like everyone of the staff had sneeze on it ........green gunge all over it I had to go outside to be sick and I never even eat it just the look of it made me ill ..
ic - don't worry - i was back within the year and have been back 5 times since - just booked up yesterday for 9th Nov for 2 weeks (mytravel - upgrade) - i'm just careful of what and where i eat - happy holidays!
The quality of food has gone down
The service is slow
the rice tastes as if it was cooked a week ago
AND THE PRICES ARE WAY OVER THE TOP
he just mumbled a bit then walked away.
I definitly wont go back there.
Never been to Spice Garden but know many people who have, including my brother who was in Candolim for the first time last year, he said that he loved all the food in all the restaurants with the exception of Spice Garden !!!Also numerous negative posts on HT ! There are so many established restaurants with positive feedback plus new venues which are worthy of a try, Ipersonally wouldn't go near the place!
Never been to Spice Garden as there have been so many negative comments about it. No wonder it is always quiet if the prices are like this. I did not think that it was possible to spend that much on a meal in Goa. How many people ate for the bill to be £60.
I am with the majority, we had a bad meal in the spice garden years ago and will not go back, I also find that the chinese restaurants in general are pretty bad,
Kim Faa Chinese restaurant in Baga is gorgeous and the prices fantastic. Havent ever tried this Spice Garden but wont be now, doesnt sound too good. thanks for the warning folks
Not forgetting of course, that the cheeky beggars at The Spice Garden stick a service charge on the bill
I think kim faa is over-rated and over priced - the crispy duck is around £10 - that's not far off english(chinese) prices, also the chinese looking manager is very nice to the customers but he talks to his staff, in full view of customers, like animals and if he is such a good restaurant manager how come the toilets are so bad - they are disgraceful. The food is quite good but I feel very uncomfortable there.
