I purchased loads of gold in Marmaris when we were there in June, Total cost was £1390, i have had it all valued and it is all real, some with diamonds and all 14ct and with certificates. the English value was 3100. I purchased all my gold from a shop called "Simbads" which is opposite the blue bay hotel. I would deffinatley recommended this place but barter one chain we brought they wanted GBP1400 we got it for £700 in the end with a 14ct gold 18 diamond wngagment ring included in the price. So show an interest and then go back later they always drop the price.
my wife and I bought a gold pendant from Safir in the square in Icemeler in 2003 bought for £190 had it valued when we came home for insurance purposes and it was valued at £635 so we bought another one for our daughter in 2004 we find the jewellry to be of excellent value and will continue to buy from Turkey. If you go to a good jeweller in turkey and do not buy from market stalls then there is no problem.
Soke has a reputation as a good place [outside Kusadasi] All gold is sold by the gram & a little extra for workmanship while in the Uk all gold is sold by the workmanship{?} 7 then the gold price....get the bulletin price per gram for gold and as a rougth guide you will do OK.
cheers
Pat
a lot people here talk about gold as a good investment. I have inherited some turkish gold, and can not sell it for a good price. Can anyone give me some advice? (I went to a few porn shops but their offers were not very good)
Turkish families see gold as the best form of investment, i have pieces that were given to us on our wedding that are over 60 years old. They were grandmother in laws wedding gift to her which she has give to us and the same with my mother in law and the value is huge now. We would never dream of selling these pieces unless we were desperate and even then it would be a last case scenario. too many families memories.
Thanks, i didn't know that. I don't get a chance to go to Turkey very often, but I'm always in Moscow. Does anyone know anything about selling jewellery in Moscow. If I can't get a good price for it in Moscow, I'll give it to a Turkish friend who's always going home.
Goldguy
did you mean pawn shops ,as I don't think a porn shop will buy your gold , Turkish or English !!!!!!!!
Gold seems to be an excellent buy in Turkey. When you say 'gold' do you just mean yellow gold or is white gold widely available aswell? And is it just as good a buy as the yellow gold?
always buy our gold from Firuze in icmeler and will be looking to buy some more this year.
There is a lot of white gold as well as yellow gold in Turkey, and yes, its just as good value to buy there as yellow gold. My wedding ring was bought in Turkey, its white and yellow gold, and its worth here about 3 times what I paid for it in Turkey.
Elaine
Thanks Elaine, just what i wanted to hear
Right here's my question. I want to get my engagement ring re-sized while in Turkey, can I haggle over the price? And how much do you think I will be looking to pay? Thanks for any info.
in truth no more than 20 ytl for a resize where ae you staying. i always go to ebru gold in icmeler and he does re sizing, re makes, and fixes very very cheap.
umm yeh, thought it didn't look right, hey I'm Australian what can I say, maybe I've been spending too much time on the internet lately. I managed to sell my gold chain here in Moscow, for a decent price which made me very happy. I'll be going to Turkey next month and was wondering what's the price per gram for quality jewellery. If it's cheap enough I'll buy some, sell it here and pay for my trip. If I can make some money it'll become a regular thing for me. If anyone's curious the selling price per gram here is anything from 6-12 dollars depending on where you sell it, how it's styled and what condition it's in.
I am travelling to Turkey in September and we are staying in Gumbet. I have been told loads about how cheap the Gold is so thought I would treat myself. Can anyone reccommend a place which is best to look and alos do they sell white gold just as cheap?
Sorry I carnt be much help on recommending a good jeweller in Gumbet, but i asked the same question about white gold the other day and Elaine helped me out and told me...
There is a lot of white gold as well as yellow gold in Turkey, and yes, its just as good value to buy there as yellow gold.
Goldguy, sorry, haven't a clue about the price per gram of gold in Turkey (I just buy what I like the look of ).
Lou Lou, I would recommend Crown jewellers in Gumbet - lots of lovely stuff in there, white and rose as well as yellow gold, and great service too. When we were buying my wedding ring there, we went to the other 2 gold shops in Gumbet (they are at the bottom of Bar Street) and they just didn't have the same kind of range (or price) I was after.
Crown jewellers is across from the Aroma restaurant, in a small row of shops directly underneath the Club Vela hotel. Its along the first street of bars and restaurants you come to from the Fuga resort into Gumbet.
Having said that, there are LOADS of gold shops in Bodrum too - take a taxi or dolmus into Bodrum for the day, have a wander round all the shops, and don't be afraid to haggle a bit.
Elaine
Thanks for the great advise Elaine. We are staying at the Gumbet so should be easy to find, do you think it would be better to buy in Bodrum as we will be going there to buy loads other bargins.
