Hi,
Bit of advice please, I have been in contact with the General Managers
P A of the hotel we are going to in a couple of weeks. He has been brilliant in replying to my question, can I ask `am I meant to give him a tip when we arrive, as he said he is looking forward to meeting us`, or because his is PA to the Manager do you not?
All advice much appreciated.
There is no need to tip when you arrive, any tips you give to any member of staff is put into a staff box and is shared out between them all. Have a good holiday.
we had this in Mexico
We on our second visit bestowed gifts (not money) on the staff we knew who were important to our stay (breakfast waiter/head waiter bar staff etc) really smoothed our holiday and gifts can't be shared so are more personal
You would not believe how much a whistle is worth to a barman in Mexico

Hi, thanks for the replies.
We havn`t actually met this guy yet, but he has been so helpful over the past few weeks, this is why a bit unsure as to what to do - don`t want to ignor it but wasn`t sure if you tip PA`s as you would cleaner/waiter etc

I have always emailed ahead of arriving at a hotel to request which floor I would like to be placed, and got the same reply, look forward to meeting you etc, but to be honest I think this may be a standard reply.
If you would really like to take something, find out if they are male/female, and perhaps take some toiletries out with you, and sweets/chocolate. Mind you, I think you will find that they are male, as you dont really see females working.
I think the most important people to 'tip' are the pool boys, cleaners and waiters, to guarantee good service, also they are the poorest paid and need the cash!

it will hurt his feelings badly if you try to tip him, he has some position in the hotel and not a bell boy..
a small present would be a nice gesture though

Thanks everyone for the replies, we go tomorrow. I`ve got some chocolates - thought that was quite a `safe` present.
