Hi, going to albufeira on December 28th for a week. Has anyone been there then? If so any information would be great. We are staying at the solario de sao jose, I know where this is as we stayed there last August. We are hoping to go to the old town on new years eve but what will the taxi situation be like? Will the tourist train be running ?

The town is totally and utterly packed, to the point of it being dangerous on NYE. You have no chance at all of a taxi until about 5AM, at the earliest. I very much doubt the Wally Trolly will be running, if it is the queues will be horrendous, and the nearest it will stop to the old town will be outside the Cerro Alagoa. The only way to get around on NYE is on foot I am afraid Sue.
