I'm going to Yasmine Hammamet at the end of april with my husband and 22 month old daughter. We will be staying at the Iberostar Averroes on an AI basis. Can anyone tell me if there is a supermarket or shop near to the hotel and also if disposable nappies are easy to get in the resort?
Any info on the hotel / resort / general tips would be appreciated.
I stayed in the Averroes in 2005 and I am going back again this Nov. From what I have heard the resort is still in the process of expanding (it's a man made/purpose built resort). When I was there, there wasn't a great deal of shops etc. but this might have changed. In saying that, if you come out of the hotel and turn right, walk along the coast road for about 10 minutes there is a good sized supermarket next to the Ice rink (I'm not joking!)This should serve all your needs.
I found this hotel to be of a VERY high standard. It's lovely, right on a lovely beach (although a fair deal of seaweed can turn up depending on the tide). There is a theme park (Carthage Land) nearby. It's not exactly Alton Towers but it can pass a few hours.
If I can be of any further assistance please feel free to get in touch.

As it has been a couple of years since I've been to the Averroes, when you get back could you please tell me if there was a fridge in your room. When we were there last time I remember that we could hire a mini bar for the room but I can't remember if this was just for the contents or the fridge and contents.
The reason I ask, is that I am going back there in Nov. and my father in law has medication which needs to be refridgerated.
Many thanks and enjoy the holiday.

I'll check and let you know. According to the hotels website (find the iberostar website and follow the link to Averroes) all rooms have a mini bar so I'm expecting to see a small fridge there!

Here is a link to the Iberostar website that Bev mentions
Cheers!
I know the last time I was there we just bought a few bottles from the bar (No, they won't give you them as part of AI!) and took them up to our room but I can't remember if we had a fridge or not.
Just watch when you get drinks at the bar. What they do is to get you to sign the receipt and whatever is on it is never what you have ordered! but don't worry as you won't be paying anyway. I think this is how the workers get freebies.
At the outdoor BBQ bar, if you are having beers you'll need to order double as they way they pour it, it's just a paper cup of froth you get. When I was there they wouldn't give you the bottle. They would open a new bottle for each person that ordered at the bar and the rest of the bottle would disappear thru' the back (even tho' it's a Muslim country, some do drink!).
I'm sure you'll have a great time at the Averroes (we did) and try to work your way thru' the cocktail list (we didn't!).Beware of the local spirit (Boukha), I'm sure it's used to power the Space Shutle!!
Bye for now.
David
The mini bar isn't part of the All Inclusive package and has to be paid for seperately.Just in case Bev is expecting to see a fridge full of free drink!.
David
Thanks for that but as I'm 4 months pregnant I'll have to give the booze a miss anyway
Nice one!
