Hi everyone,
Me and my boyfriend are planning on going on holiday at the beginning of July. This is our first trip away together so am hoping it will be a good one. We are both 25 so want somewhere not too hectic so we can relax in the day but with a good nightlife and selection of bars. He doesn't fancy Greece and I don't want to go to Turkey so we are left with Spain, the balaerics and the canaries. So far I fancy
Palma Nova - Majorca
San Antonio Bay - Ibiza (I've stayed in San Antonio on a girly holiday and loved it)
Playa del Ingles - Gran Canaria
Laganas- Zante (If I can persuade him!)
Would be grateful to hear what people think about these resorts or if you have any other suggestions.
Thanks!
San An is too hectic for me but we stayed a distance away at Cala Gracio which has 2 lovely sandy bays/beaches. It is a pretty resort but a bit too big for me these days. If you want proper clubbing then it's ideal.
Playa del Ingles would never go there again. The bars and clubs/restaurants are in 'centres' a bit like malls. There is no town centre to speak of. Beach is great though and nearby Maspalomas is probably a very good alternative now. I would fancy the other big resort of Puerto Rico is it, looks a lot more sophisticated. I found there was no atmosphere in Ingles, wasn't impressed at all.
Laganas it was some years ago I went and it is a lovely town. I believe it went through a stage of being pretty 'full on' for party people but here and other Greek resorts have clamped down on the bad behaviour so I reckon it will be quite lovely here.
I have heard that Magaluf is now a lot more sophisticated than it was so would imagine that Palma Nova has also gone down this route.
Your choices are all quite hectic resorts in my opinion but I think there may be other places you would find a little quiet perhaps.
I would say don't ignore the resorts in Spain that aren't classed specifically as lots of nightlife etc. as generally they have plenty, just not as much as the resorts you have mentioned. There are some great resorts in mallorca for instance, all of which have plenty of selection without being too full on. Same goes for Greece etc.
unless you are committed clubbers;
you could pick almost any major resort in the med and find a good selection of bars and 1 or 2 nightclubs to keep you amused. i would advise you to work out what you want to do daytimes first, and pick a resort/hotel that will provide that for you, as i'm sure the nightlife will look after itself.
if you are committed clubbers;
then any of the resorts you have chosen will probably do you, along with possibly playa des americas in tenerife.
Hi Claire Have you not thought about the Algarve,there are some lovely resorts with beautiful scenic blue flag beaches, from east to west, from hectic style to relaxed but still with plenty nightlife. Why dont you post on the Algarve/Portugal discussion forum I'm sure you will get lots of suggestions. Cheers Jayjan
Gran Canaria: I wouldn't recommend Playa del Ingles - went there last year and it was the most characterless place I have ever seen and very 'European' (in other words, full of Germans...) I have heard Puerto Rico is much better.
Majorca: How about Alcudia? Gorgeous beach and lots of good bars. Haven't been there myself (apart from back in the 70s when I was a little girl) but I know a few people who return there every year or two.
Lanzarote: Puerto del Carmen is nice resort, good choice of bars and restaurants, quite popular with young couples who don't want the 18-30s scene but aren't feeling 'old' yet.
Good luck with your choices
Thanks everyone for your suggestions. We're hoping to get a late deal so will see where is available but I have a better idea of where I think we could go now and there seem to be plenty of options!
