Food was not good for vegetarians - no imagination and poor selection.
Staff were uninterested and not friendly or helpful in anyway - bar 1 or 2.

Our room was brilliant with fantastic sea view with added bonus of seeing dolpins on first morning (sorry to say this was not repeated).
Food would not win awards but was adequate and varied
enough for the 1 week to prevent repetition daily.
2 weeks would have been to long and trips to Sunny Beach a few miles away would have been a must to sample other menus.
Staff could not be faulted, friendly & very hard working (waitresses were great). Entertainment was a major downside for adults with none at the hotel.
We had a very relaxed enjoyable week and I would say to anyone give it a try for 1 week. I would go again if the price was right.

food good plenty of it bulgarian sausages and all meat great flavours. Plenty of salads and a small childrens selection. Beach spotless staff pick up seaweed thats washed up and level sand every day. Beach very safe for children and loungers and parasols for all.
Hotel has no entertainment but short walk from hotel nightly show and bingo if you want it. Five restaurants to choose from but have to book day before.
Sea view from room great nice to wake up to in the morning like paridise.
Hotel staff all very nice. Very relaxing holiday thats what we wanted.

The 'communal' areas of the hotel were kept spotless at all times - cleaners everywhere, however we didn't find the room to be the same....floor was filthy, and the sheets were only changed once in the 2 weeks we were there (should be changed twice a week).
Beware of the birds nests which are on almost all balconies...lots of pooh everywhere!
The restaurant staff were fantastic and very friendly...they definitely made up for the miserable reception staff!! All the cleaners were very friendly too!
Food was not very good...very repetitive, especially breakfast (exactly the same menu every day!), and you often found lunch leftovers mixed together to make a 'new' dish for dinner! Not at all impressed considering it's supposed to be 4* All Inclusive. Also, watch out for the sparrows that frequently come into the restaurant to feed on the rice etc!
Entertainment was non-existent at the Royal Bay, but weather permitting, there was outside entertainment by the First Choice reps at the Royal Park hotel (5-10 min walk away). If it rained though, they went inside, but because we were staying at the Royal Bay, we weren't allowed in to the bar at Royal Park.
Also, the outside bar at Royal Park would serve us drinks some nights, but refuse on others because of our wristbands (Guests wear coloured wristbands dependant on their accommodation) - very annoying considering all the hotels are owned by the same company !

Staff, food, cleanliness everything about it was great. We were only there for one week which wasn't long enough. Infact we have already booked for this year in June for 2 weeks.

The hotel was spotless, rooms spacious, food was wonderful.
There was no entertainment in this hotel but that suited us perfectly. There is plenty to do about a 5 minute walk away at the Royal Park Hotel if that's what you want.
The food was good and wholesome, very tasty indeed. The wine in the restaurant was lovely. The most delicious meals on holiday ever. OK you get an occasional sparrow flying into the restaurant - but so what? They can't hurt you!
I personally cannot understand how anyone could complain about this hotel. Sea views/wonderful weather. Great bus service 5 minutes from Royal Bay to Sunny Beach/Nessebar. We have booked up to go again July 2006 - can't wait.
There is an army of cleaners in the hotel. They were lovely. Towels changed when we wanted them changed. Beds changed regularly - cannot fault the cleanliness.
Yes there were birds nesting in the balconies - but we were fortunate that we didn't have one on ours. We didn't want to spend the duration of the holiday on the balcony! The cleaners even collected up the seaweed on the beach after a stormy night! If you want fish & chips and Spanish style service - go to Spain - We would not thank you for a free holiday in Spain compared to Bulgaria

The food was disgusting hardly edible we actually lost weight on this holiday and I would have paid a kings ransom for a decent meal. Typical dinner was fried eggs in yoghurt and fish cakes and a dish called hotchpotch which was all the leftovers from previous meals.
Ended up living on stale rolls and hard boiled eggs.
The location was great plenty of space on the beach even though the secret towel fairies had been!!
The staff looked like they needed a course on customer care - it was hard to get them to smile let alone help us with anything.
The bar - thats a laugh - one little bar inside - first night we were told the beer had run out - second night - no brandy - third night - no coke so we ended up going to the shop and buying our own - this was supposed to be All Inclusive!!

The rooms were very large comprising of a very big bathroom and a massive living room separated by a false wall over half of the room ( separating the kids from the adults!) The room looked very clean but on closer inspection could have been a little bit cleaner (ie sheets stained and hair still in plughole).
We were too late to go into the dining area, but there were bottles of water in the fridge with two chocolate bars for the children.
Breakfast was not very successful any day. I was not expecting gourmet cuisine, but, the only thing that I could eat was very undercooked toast (toaster takes ages) and jam. There were pancakes and fried eggs but neither looked very appetising. The coffee was good though.
Dinner and lunch were very rarely better and the food - just edible if very repetitive. I realise this is not Britain, and standards are not as high, but as someone who could eat anything!? I really couldn't stomach any of this after the first few days.
The beach is lovely. Situated right in front of the hotel, it is clean and there are plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas although as with most european resorts, some like to get their beds very early! There are lots of lifeguards along the bay and it is very safe for the children as you can walk very far out without the sea becoming too deep.
The First choice rep was very helpful for us and nothing seemed too much trouble for her even though we didn't book any trips. I do, however, have to agree with Sharon from the previous report(Hi Sharon!!) We got to know her and her husband pretty well and we all had problems obtaining the drinks that we wanted. Sharons husband was buying his own brandy in the end as were most of our party and I personally couldn't stomach any of the local spirits and spent a fortune on Smirnoff!!
Having gone all inclusive for the last 4 years I was very disappointed with the way they ran out of everything!!!! even ice cubes. (Although there were icemaking machines in the restaurant.) We ended up greasing palms to get a small cup of ice between 13 of us.
The entertainment is Gabrielle playing on the stereo in the bar all night and day, every night and day. Luckily there were enough of us to make laughs on our own but the lack of variety meant that we had to go to Sunny Beach at least every other day to appease the kids who became very bored. Thus adding alot of unnecessary expense to the holiday.
With hindsight, the holiday would have been better had we gone self catering and paid less, therefore warranting the extreme amounts of spending money that we got through.
I am not a professional complainer - nor is Sharon from Wembley, although the standards would definitely need to be higher to make this hotel anywhere near a four star. We felt that we were moaning every day about the lack of things and it was so out of character for all of us.
The Bulgarian restaurant situated in the Holiday Village was very nice though, the food was edible and the ambience excellent. The Irish Bar in the Royal Park was very busy and more like a Butlins environment which meant the kids liked it but the adults had to queue for at least 20 mins to get a drink.
The upshot is that in 5 years time when the act is together, this will be a very charming and sweet place to visit. Now though, I will be looking for somewhere a little more established and will definitely be going self catering so as not to have to endure the mediocre cuisine.

The food was unvaried but edible, there was even enough food to satisfy a vegetarian throughout the week. The local beer was really nice and the servings of local spirits were generous.
The staff were all very friendly and the tour rep couldn't do enough to help. The only downside was there was not enough to do in the evening, but if you wanted a quiet holiday it was ideal.
