We first visited Golden Sands 15 years ago and have been back 5 times. We have stayed in several hotels Glarus, Zlatna Kotva, Sirena and will be visiting the Grand Marina Palace in July.
Would have no hesitation in recommending this resort. Good for families and a great choice of restaurants. We are visiting again in July. Its really good value for money.

Have just came back from 2 weeks in Golden Sands My resort ratings do not add up to the usual standards of the resort as I have been there before and I would rate it much higher but more than half of it is a building site at the moment it didn't worry us as there was still pleanty to do at the other end of the resort but it would have been nice to have been informed of it by Balkan Holidays We didnt even get the hotel we were supposed to be in which was Perla but we were upgraded to the hotel Kaliakra Palace which I couldn't fault But we were only told about that after we landed

Unfortunately the resort was a bit of a building site at the moment and getting around would be a bit difficult for those with walking difficulties, but things were improving everyday and they are really working all out to get things finished.
The beach really lives up to its name, spotlessly clean and it really is golden. Entertainment depends on what you are looking for, there are nightclubs, music/piano bars and traditional gypsy evenings in many of the restaurants.

The problem with Golden Sands is the demand from the tourist. Many Ukrainian people come here as is only a short flight, along with many other nationalities including the Brits, therefore there is constant building and upgrading.
This place will be fantastic when improvents have finished and would probably go back in 2005. As went as a family with 2 kids under 5, stopped me giving this resort a 100% perfect rating. I suggest everybody go b4 Bulgaria get into the Euro and prices soar

The resort could only be describes as a building site. There were eleven hotels under construction. Building lorries were everywhere. Dust was everywhere.
Little or no entertainment in the resort. Plenty of restaurants, but no other entertainment.
This might suit couples, but no use if you have children.

We love Golden Sands and are going back in 2006 for our third trip. There are loads of things to do and lots to see. The surrounding area is also worth a visit. Don't miss a trip into Varna for the market, Primorski park and the Dolphinarium. Go on the bus, it's easy and cheap. Look out for the gold covered cathedral and get off there or ask for "McDonalds" as it's nearby too, chances are there will be a load of other Brits getting off there too. The bus picks up where it dropped you off so it's no problem coming back. It only takes about 25 mins on the bus for 1 lev. Beware of the taxi drivers though and say a polite "no" as you wait for the bus there and back. The beach is clean and ideal for children and weak swimmers as there are no undercurrents. Go to 'Parmy's' for a cheap meal and friendly staff. It's next to the childrens car track on the sea front, to the north of the 'galleon' restaurant. Only downside to the resort is the constant badgering by 'Bonkers disco' people who become a pain. Just take their promo leaflet politely and bin it down the street later. If the restaurant staff want you to come inside just tell them you've already eaten that does the trick. Deffo going back, we've met so many nice Bulgarian people over there who we keep in contact with. The locals are lovely.

The resort is wholly devoted to the all too common 'bucket-and-spade' type holidaymaker and as such for the independent traveller there is little basic to recommend it. There are however convenient bus services into the much more atttractive Varna.

this would be an excellent resort in season regarding night life shops etc but we unfortunately arrived at end of season they start closing the resort down juring the last week of season. however the facilities that were open were very helpful and welcoming and incredibly cheap there is a problem with ladies of the night but they do not approach couples
