Location
Entertainment was good, as effort had been made into staging the shows and there was the disco as well.
Holiday overall was OK went down a storm with the teenagers in our Party and as every parent knows on holiday that is half the battle will sullen teenagers.
Would visit again even if it was just to keep the younger ones happy!

The first 3 hours after we arrived and went for dinner my husband slipped on grease on the restaurant floor left there by the staff. They knew it was there as one of the waiters had slipped on it just before my husband, but they just weren't bothered. So 3 hours after we arrived my husband had a broken arm on one hand and a broken little finger on the other!
The hotel management were rude and un helpful and wouldn't even give us to cost of a phone call to the insurance company. This had ruined our holiday from then on due to the fact we had trips booked, fishing, quad biking, etc but he couldn't do any of it, so we had to stay in the hotel bored silly !
Then by day 4 the bites had started. A couple at 1st here and there and by the weekend they were fumigating the rooms. When I asked what they were using due to my daughter in the room they didn't know and couldn't tell me if it was safe for my baby!
Due to it raining and there is nowhere for you to sit indoors apart for the restaurant and this was only open when the food was being served, or the reception area which was full of people. They were totally useless and the rude, there was only one man behind the reception that was nice, helpful and friendly Raul-Josefa.
Anyway they fumigated the rooms and this made the matter even worse and the bites got steadily worse. By the 10th day we were at the end of our tether, we had requested the bedding be replaced all of it but they hadn't because the stains on the quilt covers were the same so they hadn't been changed.
We all woke up on day 10 and we were covered in bites they weren't mozzie bites they were flee bites. The rude hotel services manager was as rude as they come and didn't want to help us she said we had been entertaining the feral cats that roam the resort. I'm allergic to cats and I have a bad reaction when told that she gave me a filthy look and muttered something,
After a long argument and half of the result hearing they agreed to move us free of charge, along with 2 other families (one family had to be treated in hospital because they were so bad), they moved us to the Puerto Plata Village around the corner and for the last four days we had a holiday.
It was clean and the staff were lovely the management and staff all ate with us in the restaurant and they were all lovely. I would go back to that resort but never to Fun Royale, that ain't fun at all. Avoid it like the plague(of flees) and if you read the rest of these nice reviews please note the dates. I'm not saying they're wrong but it has got worse from when they went, if you do still want to go get good insurance.

Rooms were basic but comfortable (what do you expect for a 3*?). All requirements for rooms were met.
There were a few mosquito bites but we came prepared for these. As for fleas, we were warned that there were sand fleas on the beach and were informed of what to do after leaving the beach. As a precaution, rooms were fumigated once a week.
The restaurant always offered a wide selection of food and we never once went hungry. Food was cooked fresh in front of your eyes.
The entertainment staff were friendly and tried to get everyone involved in activities. If you want a quiet time an adult pool area is provided away from the activities.
Overall, we enjoyed the holiday very much and would recommend this resort if you would like a fun filled holiday.

Firstly I found no sign of bed bugs or fleas, there was only a few mozzies which I was prepared for in a tropical climate.
The food was amazing a huge choice, something for everyone (even my picky 6 year old).
The pools were both clean and safe. The beach was beautiful and plenty of sun loungers.
The entertainment team were amazing, they worked very hard and was constantly smiling. The staff were kind and cheerful. The hotel grounds were kept immaculate.
This hotel states it is a 3 and 4 star, and I was not disappointed.
I enjoyed it so much I have booked to return next Christmas for 3 weeks.

Wish we had stayed in cold wet england!!! while the weather was good the hotel was appauling. Rooms were less than basic and infested with "beach fleas". Even though we hadn'd yet been to beach! The restaurant if you can call it that served the same luke warm slop every night,we lost weight after this holiday and can't say that often!!
The staff were friendly plenty to do for the kids. If you book trips then do this at beach as it will be half the price. We did and they were brill and reliable, reps at hotels are out to make money don,t forget. Don,t forget mosie crm we were eaten alive!

The room we were allocated was damp and smelly, we put up with it for 2 days and was eaten alive by either mosquitoes or flees even though we used all the necessary sprays etc.
We went and asked to be moved, which was not a problem thankfully our second room was much cleaner and brighter but the hotel seems to have a big problem with mosquitoes.
We were told this was due to the lake at the side of the hotel, and also the rain which it did every day at least twice a day and very hard. I had 90+ bites at the end of the 2 weeks and so had my partner.
The food was very good especially the Italian and Brazilian restaurants.
The hotel staff we helpful and friendly, the entertainment staff were excellent and these people made our stay enjoyable. There was always some activities going off in the day time.
The main pool could get a bit noisy but this wasn't a problem as there was a quiet pool if you wanted peace and quiet.
A night out at the bars in the plaza helps break the monotomey of the all inclusive concept up. Well worth a visit.
We also went to a Dominican Night Club in Puerto Plata with one of the locals which was the best night out! If you get the chance try it the dancing was amazing and they are so eager to teach you. It is safe to go out of the resort at night so don't let the reps put you off.
One day I will return to the Dominican Republic but will choose a different hotel and probably resort.

I suppose the name 'Fun' should have given me the clue that I was going to be woken up every night (at least 3 tims/night without fail!) by people coming back from the all night disco/entertainment. I can honestly say it was the noisiest holiday I have ever had - and I've had a lot!
The other frustration for me was the lack of interest from the staff. If you want to join in the pool activities, they seem very keen, but the bicyle tour that was advertised in the 'all inclusive activities' didn't happen, as no one could be bothered to take the tour. We were however hassled every day by the tour desk to pay $49 per person to go on a 1/2 day trip on quad bikes. The other trips that we were encouraged to do ranged from $29/person for a tour of Puerto Plata to $130/person for a boat trip.
The tennis courts despite being advertised as opening at 08.00 (when the heat was just about bearable) didn't open until 09.00 - after we had chased the tour desk to find someone to open the courts for us. Again, evidence that the staff were more interested in the partying than the general all inclusive basic activities.
On a plus side our room was cleaned every day and the maid service was excellent. Food was generally of a reasonable standard - although the fruit and salads left a lot to be desired.
For anyone interested in the golf course next to the resort - our main reason for choosing the hotel - take your own clubs and balls. The cost for playing in the summer is $50 for 18 holes, plus $25 for club rental, plus $2.50 for 25 balls, plus $20 for a golf cart/$400 for a caddie. We did not see anyone unaccompanied - therefore making the game price $100 plus 16% tax.
Finally, the location of the hotel is quite beautiful, the grounds are extremely well maintained and the view of the golf course is stunning. A cart will take you to the beach 5 minutes away, which is cleaned regularly. However unless you go on an organised trip you are restricted to the comlex area.

negatives first- when we arrived we had no cot-reception man was very rude when i phoned from the room and asked for one- he said they had none and that she would have to sleep on the bed and to try tomorrow!
Second day he was very dismissive and brushed us off saying he was sorting it and we would have one by the afternoon if he could find one. I spoke to a second man later that evening and he got me one within 10 mins- I dont know what the other guys problem was but apparently he was also a bit off with other people and their requests. We also got a fridge on the second day as promised
Anyway-moans over!
The rooms- 2 queen size beds, bathroom with a good powerful shower but no flannels-remember to take your own
cleaner came in every day but sheets were only changed twice during our 2 week stay
Take lots of mosquito cream or Vics menthol(this reaaly worked, only after i got 61 bites) didn't know about vics until I'd been eaten alive. Some people didnt seem to be bitten at all but once they get you they keep biting.
Food-breakfast, yoghurts, fruit, cereal, omelette, fries, scrambled or boiled eggs, toast, french toast, sausages, fried banana..mmm..mmm.yucca,there is definately something for everyone
Lunch-usually selection of meats or fish with rice, chips salad or veg. Evening-variable-sometimes there were lots of nice meat and rice dishes-they have themed nights-Mexican was the best. Food not always very hot though
soups were excellent-they were alwasy piping
Italian-ok, a la carte-so not much on your plate!
Brazilian-nice but take your mozzie spray-as its outdoors and everyone was getting bitten-it put us off because we spent more time spraying ourselves
Entertainment- can I just say to all the people who moan about the shows-that when we went on the stage for the club dance it was incredibly hot up there and these guys dance for an hour or so-dont know how they do it.
We thought the shows were quite good-the entertainers work very hard and are there all day-join in with them, it makes their day. Big hello to Jose, Alex, Spaghetti, and all the crew
Location-beach is 7 mins walk-not far at all-really nice scenery but too far to walk if its very hot
beach vendors are persistant but not aggressive-a polite no thank you usually works-but dont buy anything from them unless its a quarter of what they are asking-everything they sell is in the plaza for a 1/4 of the price.
Would I go back-yeah probably, because all of the staff bar the 1 man at reception were absolutely lovely
big hello to our bartenders-franklin, freddie, izakia, leandro, leonardo-thanks for your special cocktails and looking after Alexas bottles

Changed room 3 times, first room small and grotty, second room smelt and was damp, third room acceptable. No fridge, drinking water in container that wasn't sealed. Smelt of sewage round pool area.
Buffet restaurant food not always hot, 3 in our party got upset stomachs. Drinks served in plastic tumblers of flimsy plastic cups. Cocktails very basis with no umbrellas etc. Drinks filled to the top with ice. No ice-creams for the children.
Mini market extortionately expensive, bag of crisps
