Well what can I say but, there was only one good restaurant and that was the Japanese, problem being you could only go once a week. We did try the others which we found awful. The birds were flying about and landing on your food while you were eating it. Our five year old was horrified, and would not eat anything.
We were in the best block I think which was 11,looking on to reception, although a family below us was broken into, while asleep.

Reading the current reviews, thought I'd actually add my own as a positive one. Just in short if you dont want to read my long review, we had a great time, with no issues to complain about.
If you do take the time to read my review it may give you some tips on how to best get the most out of this hotel. Being there just me and Boyfriend I really wanted to get talking to some other english people to get tips on the ins and out of what happens, as I think with many holidays you end up wishing you knew a lot of things at the start that you find out as you go along so hopefully this will help.
I too was rather apprehensive about visiting this hotel after reading some dubious reports, and asked my boyfriend if he thought I should email ahead of arriving and request a room in block 10 or 11 as I has read these were better.
Although he said lets just see what we get and we can change when we get there. this was our first holiday together so I suppose we didnt have anything for it to live up to.
Firstly the flight was ok, with my travel and in economy, unfortunately being tight we didnt prebook our seats and for the first time ever (usual holidays every year travelling abroad) there wasn't any two seats together, I was quite shocked, I assumed this just happened to people who turned up with half an hour to spare, we arrived 2 hours 50mins before, so out by just 10 mins of the advised 3 hours, so i now actually believe that it is worth pre booking or getting there with lots of time to spare. But anyway they found us 2 isle seats in front of each other which turned out not too bad considering its an 8 hour flight.
On arriving at Puerto Plata airport you do queue a while to get through customs getting your visa's it is worth applying for these over here which you can do, however there's a band playing music and singing while you wait.
Here is the one con with the airport, this area in which you wait is very warm and stuffy with no air con what so ever.
So when we were offered vip lounge that is air conditioned with tv and free drinks and snack for

The rooms were run down, smelled musty and had very poor plumbing.
The rest of the resort was good although 4 of the 5 in our party were ill both during and immediately after our stay.
This has never happened in other places we have visited.

Kids ages 5 and 10... loads to do for the kids.... entertainment was out of this world and kept all ages entertained during the day and night... evan when we had a full day of rain the entertainment for kids and adults was great...
Rooms... we a lot to be desired..we stayed in block 4 and right overlooking the 24hour beach bar..was woken most nights at 5am with stevie wonder singing he just called to say i love you... not impressed with that at all.. when i complained they offered me another room saying it was a 24 hour beach bar and that it was to be expected!!
room air conditioner leaked for the first 4 days and kept having to report it but the maintenance was there as soon as i put down the phone.
Hotel food was great would highly recommend booking for the resturants as Jimmys bbuffet seemed to get a bit "ground hog ish"....
Water was rough andonly had one green flag day the whole 2 weeks we were there... althou the kids enjoyed jumping the waves.
Doplhin encounter was great we have done this before during other holidays but this place was by far the best... the shark encounter was funny too...

Stayed here for one week. The rooms we had were good and kept clean although I did here of a few complaints from other guests.
The food was average at best. They have four "a la carte" restaurants and an international buffet. The Japanese restaurant was very good, the French and Italian were ok but the Tex/Mex was very poor and was the only really bad meal we had there. The buffet was a bit hit and miss but there was always something worth eating. The kids found the food poor (no chips for a week the poor wee souls)
The hotel has good facilities all of which were in good use throughout our stay and the pool was very good.
The hotel was quite a bit out of town but run shuttle buses to Sosua and Cabarete. The beach was quite poor and not very big. The water was quite rough and the red flag was up every day which meant there was no swimming in the sea.
The hotel staff on reception and cleaners etc were friendly but the bar staff were poor I was told on my last night that to get any real service you had to tip them on arrival.
The entertainment was dire some shows on some nights but they were not very good. There was nothing for the kids at night so sitting in a bar with a bored 15 year old and 8 year old made for some very long nights. The best entertainment was provided by the karaoke. They also advertise a piano bar which is at reception but there was no live music and a tape was played repeatedly meaning you could hear the same songs 2 or 3 times depending on how long you sat.
In summary Would I go back to DR Yes
Would I go back to this hotel No

Pool was really good, large lagoon with waterfalls, Jacuzzi's (although very few jets) and hot tub. Plenty of sunbeds but not many umbrella's.
Hotel was right on the beach, beach was okay but sea was so choppy that it was a red flag every day so we couldn't go in it.
Hotel had lots to do - trapeze, climbing wall, tennis, badminton, free shuttle buses to both towns (Sousa & Cabaret). Evening entertainment was okay (as expected).
Bbut: we had quite a few problems with our room (broken safe, fridge, patio doors, toilet) which I wouldn't have minded so much if the staff had been friendlier or tried harder to help. We were eventually moved after spending half the first week going backwards and forwards complaining about the problems not being fixed.
I would recommend you pay the extra and get a superior room as they were much better (double bed instead of 2 singles for a start).
Biggest disappointment for me was the unfriendly miserable staff, mainly at the bars. Usually the swim up bar is where you have a laugh and meet other people, but there was no atmosphere here because of the miserable bar staff. It's also quite difficult to get the maid to leave you any drinks in your fridge (I took to leaving a daily note otherwise we didn't get anything!)
It's funny because we have been to the Dominican before a few years ago (Occidental Playa Dorada) and they were the most friendly staff we had ever met, we thought it was a Dominican trait until we went here! I know they don't get many tips as it's all inclusive, but they don't at other hotels either. This is the first time we have left a hotel without leaving a tip for anyone.
In summary: good location, facilities, food, pool and good for kids but don't expect too much of your room (although the CD player, hairdryer and ironing board - and after complaining an iron! are good) and don't expect the staff to be helpful or smile.

The standards at this hotel were quite good while we were there. Read many reviews that were saying the opposite. When we arrived we were put in to block 11 which I now know is one of the best blocks.
The room was very clean and comfy. The maid for our floor was great. The hotel was very clean throughout our stay, we had no problems.
Booking the a la carte's are a must the food in them was great, they made the whole holiday.
The hotel was quite isolated, nothing nearby. The hotel puts on a bus 3 times a day to Sosua and Cabarete but you need to wait until the next bus comes back from the hotel to take you back to the hotel and that could be 3 or 4 hours later. So good idea to get a taxi back.
The entertainment team worked very hard as did the rest of the staff. My only complaint would be that after dinner there is not a single thing for 12-17 year olds to do except pool which closes at 10.45. my son, aged 12 was very disappointed with the hotel at night. He was very bored with nothing to do. All the entertainment was over by 10.45

We stayed at Superclub Breezers in July 2005 and could not believe we were in the Dominican republic. We had been led to believe that it was the Caribbean. Luxury was what we had been promised. Ha.
On arriving we were allocated our rooms. They were horrible. They smelt of mould and dripped water on to you and the floor from the inept air conditioning, making lovely puddles on the floor (my 65 year old dad fell twice in the second week) Apparently air con is supposed to have a water filter on it removing moisture from the atmosphere not dripping it back in to the room.
We did ask to move rooms, my friend moved and was happier with her new room. I was offered her old one! I was told to return the next day but it threw it down all day and silly me felt too much of a moaner the next day to return and complain again as it was day 5 of our holiday.
We did see a pattern emerging though. When you arrived you got the grotty rooms for a couple of days and then if persistent got moved to the newer more plush rooms.
The food although not bad was always covered in flies that we believe caused us all to have what I can only describe as a very bad stomach upset (use your imaginations)for at least 10 days each.
Cleanliness was another problem. Everywhere looked like it need a good scrub and an overdue lick of paint. The worst thing that I saw was a waitress washing down the chairs and tables with a flannel dipped in the bird bath!
Friends of ours had said that we would never meet such friendly people that nothing was ever too much trouble for them. Yes if you were Dominican. They would always serve the locals first even if the came to the bar after you.
The entertainment was OK some nights but to sit and watch it in the over-crowded, semi-indoor, 100 degrees plus amphitheatre was just too unbearable. The band that played, though did tend to stick to the same songs, were so sweet and friendly and one afternoon while rehearsing spotted my dad watching and invited him back stage to watch up close. That was the Dominican nature we had expected.
The trapeze to go on (my daughter said 2I will go on tomorrow) and watch was good really safe and extremely novel in a hotel, but after boasting that our hotel had an ice rink (it's plastic) we never saw it open.
The pool was large and the best bit of the hotel by far (OH yeah and the toilets in the foyer, to lull you into a false sense of security on you arrival) but the swim up bar was a real let down. We all raced to get into our cossies and get down there for a drink but it was scruffy and guests were allowed to smoke in it so the odd fag end floated by and the place just didn't have that relaxing Caribbean feel at all.
Personally I would visit the Dominican again but certainly not Superclub Breezers, who's' sister resort to the north of the island, incidentally was featured on package holidays uncovered describing all the same problems that we were encountering. Mysterious stomach upsets, flies on the food, dripping air con and overall uncleanliness.
