Location
Our room at the Reef was on the ground floor ( they are 3 stores high) and opened straight onto fantastic pool. Welcome fresh fruit and drinks in our room. 2 double beds and a good sized bathroom. Only thing missing was that it would have been good to have a fridge in our room. Air conditioning good. Cleaned daily to a good standard. Safe drinking water available though water dispensers located throughout the complex.
Food and drinks available in the restaurants was of a good standard and we did not hear of any problems or sickness of other travellers. Great range of drinks and cocktails available at the bars until 23.00.
Always able to obtain a sun lounger either by pool or beach. We had fantastic weather without any rain which apparently is unusual for this time of year. Hotel staff friendly and presentable. Daily change of beach towels was great.
Entertainment during the day was available but we enjoyed the evening shows. Although mostly based around dance they were professionally put on. All in all a great late deal and fantastic value. Would we go again...YES

Also when we arrived the lighting is bad it seems like 2 x 15 watt light bulb
The evening meal was bland and the main restaurant was uninviting to eat at.
However the pool looked well kept, clean and tidy.
The staff was helpful and polite
But we moved hotel because the room was so bad.

This is now our 3rd visit to Casa Marina in Sosua.
It is a great hotel for our family.
It is also a great base for us to visit friends, explore the island, to eat out etc. etc.
Because the Hotels ( Casa Marina Beach & Casa Marina Reef) are in the district of Sosua called El Batey you are within easy reach of the Pubs, Restaurants, the beach (public beach), shops and much more.
Both Hotels are fine for those wishing not to venture outside the complex. Tours can be booked using Marothel Tours who are Casa Marina's Exclusive Tour Operators and these can be found easily from within the Hotels.
For those wishing to venture outside the complex to book your tours you would normally expect these to be cheaper.
We have never had problems with food in our last 3 visits to Casa Marina. Our rooms have always been ok.
The staff overall have been very good to us with.
For information on these hotels with photos etc. and information on Sosua you will find this website www.sosuadomrep.com is a good resource.
Have a great time at Casa Marina.

Entertainment team also work very hard and some of the evening shows are very funny.
Key tip - ensure you do not receive a ground floor room - very strong smell of damp.
I booked all our excursions through Linda at Mels Tours (located at the rear of La Roca bar in Sosua). They were better value than the Airtour excursions and they are fully insured. I would suggest booking horse riding with Rancho Lorilar (can book direct or through Thomsons) - they are much more professional and safety conscious.
We had a great time for our first trip to the Caribbean. Only the flight was a little too much - 8 hours!!

On getting to the hotel room I found that the room was no better it looked very dated.
However we had no complaints about the food and the service of the staff was excellent.
Entertainment was just ok not my cup of tea the entertainers did put alot of work into the shows that they did but we thought that they were to serious and we were bored by them.
Drinks were ok you could get most spirits and any cocktail that you wanted.
There are 2 beaches on the complex 1 very quiet and 1 alot busier. The beaches were lovely we were on them most days.
The weather was red hot and sunny alot of the time but unfortunatly we had 2 days of rain.
Finally if you get your hair braided get it done down in the town we got our daughters done in the hotel and paid $100 and we could have got it done for $30 in town.

Guests can use facilities at both Reef and Beach resort - most of the action is based around the Reef Pool but there are 3 main bars and smaller ones with the restaurant's Italian and the Seafood were both excellent although after a week the food does start to get a little boring.
My only comment on the hotel was a lack of seating around the bars - each bar is slightly isolated with nowhere to sit and chat.

I travelled there as a single female and the people couldn't have been more friendly and helpful and always at hand.
The room was perfect for me with no complaints to be had and cleaned everyday.
The complex itself was well maintained and there was always plenty to do and see whether you wanted to join in or just sit back and relax.
Plenty of choice of food for every nationality and plenty to drink.
I loved the Jacuzzis by the rocks which were also a very nice cooling change from the hot sun.
Came home tanned, relaxed with long braided hair and have already booked to go back in May '06

If you can ignore the people who "can't wait to get home for a McDonalds" then you'll be doing fine. Anyone complaining about this hotel has serious snags. We will book up again, but this time for three weeks.
Heard people complaining about the heat, the mosquitos and the food - only one thing to say to them - STAY AT HOME! Having done several all inclusive holidays, this was by far the best.
Staff and service couldn't have been better. The only critisism if it is that, is when we went to the welcome meeting the rep told us that the airport was not air conditioned and the facilities were poor on your return home, so you should consider booking into the VIP lounge at $20 each - don't - the airport is more that adequate - spacious, air conditioned and has plenty of shops, albeit more expensive than in the shops in your resorts.

As a family we have stayed at the Beach in 2004 and the Reef in 2005. We are returning in 2006 for 4 weeks, that says someting about how much we enjoyed the place.
I have some photo's of Casa Marina Beach & Reef on a website about Sosua I created in 2005.
If you have visited this hotel feel free to upload your photos on sosuadomrep website to share with other users.
Thanks
Dean

Food choice is great and the various restraunts were all fab.the rooms are clean and comfortable(but a fridge would be fab!) we found since our last visit some areas a bit tired and needing some upgrading(the bars on the front, patio furniture that type of thing)but generally a superb hotel with super pools and the best entertainment we've ever seen!
I would recommend weddings here as the staff could'nt do enough for us and the result was the best day of our lives!!!
