Location
Journey from the airport was an experience and a little bumpy (apparently the road should have been finished in 2000), so girls take your support bras. The journey took just short of two hours.
We had a quiet cottage on the beach (number 19), this one would be great for families as it had two bedrooms (1 double and 1 twin upstairs), along with lounge. The whole resort was very chilled and felt very personal. I would say that the best cottages to have would be between numbers 14 and 20.
Maintenance team and housekeeping were excellent, had a slight issue with the flush handle and it was fixed exceptionally quickly.
Food was great, cocktails were great too, and the Swing bar was a great place to relax with yet another drink.
Only downside, got bitten a few times by mozzies, but the onsite shop sold bite cream and insect repellent, but it might be as well to take some with you.
Went on the party boat to Dunns River Falls, which was pretty cool, free rum and redstripe (not together) on the boat along with snorkelling at a coral reef on the way there. They offered dvd's of the trip on the way back.. good tip barter on the price, we got em down an extra $20, but I don't know if the start price was the same for everybody.
On the last two days we took the opportunity of upgrading to the Holiday Inn near Montego Bay.. only because it was closer to the airport and we wanted to try out somewhere else.
This hotel had loads of facilities, and it was huge.. bit noisy in the buffet area though. The upgrade included free transportation to the hotel and on to the airport afterwards (but don't forget to ask about the one to the airport). Adult only pool there with the swim up bar was a pretty good way of chiling through the day.
Allow plenty of time to get through the airport though, its not the most organised place in the world.. but hey, after the week we had it was - YEAH MAN - NO PROBLEM!
Would definately go back..... FAB FAB FAB...

The journey over was long and boring but was worth it definitely! when we first got there it was the tail end of the hurricane so it was flooded on the way to the hotel which scared us a bit!
Once we arrived it was nicer than I expected, cleaner and brighter. The staff at the front desk arent very helpful though.

Everywhere you look you can see people cleaning - the standard was very high.
We were lucky enough to get married on the jetty so obviously we have a soft spot for Jamaica but we could not fault the resort. The beachfront bungalows were steps away from the sand, the food was fabulous and an endless variety - you would be hard pushed not to find something you like. The staff were always singing which we found so cheering.
The entertainment was appalling. In the evening when the jetty bar closes (2000h) the only place to have a drink is the poolside bar - early evenings were fantastic - a local band entertained for a couple of hours. Then it all normally went to pot!!
The noise was such that you couldn't have a conversation, the reps were the main source of entertainment (I use that phrase lightly!)
If you enjoy fashions shows (all items available in the local shop) general racket of out of tune singing/karaoke etc .... don't misunderstand - whatever floats your boat -but if this is not your type of entertainment there is nowhere else to go to get away from it. However, this would be our only complaint - the entertainment - everything else was perfect.
The staff could not do enough for us - especially the wedding co-ordinators Anne & Diane

Individual beach huts, very clean.
Food excellent, lots of choice.
Staff were very friendly.
Entertainment geared more for the Americans, very loud, not to my taste, but you cant have everything perfect, credit to the entertainers who put 100% into it.
Hope to visit next year with the children.

The place was immaculate with staff constantly mopping floors and dusting. I didn't see a cobweb / insect / speck of dust all week! The staff at the hotel simply couldn't do enough for us. Facilities were great with all watersports (except diving) included in the price.
Outside the complex was a bit dodgy with locals hassling us as soon as we went beyong the safe confines of the resort.
We ventured out on two trips (Dunn's River Falls... a must and Dolphin Cove, also a must) on organised trips and were more than impressed with both.
We expected to have our hands in our pockets tipping all the time but apart from bus drivers this was not the case. Staff at the hotel simply didn't expect tips.
The accomodation was a cottage rather than a room in a block which was superb. Cleanliness was second to none. Our only gripes were; shower pressure died on occasions but was still useable, afternoon pool entertainment was a bit noisy when all we wanted to do was relax after a huge lunch!

We were a bit uneasy at first (we did not pick the hotel my brother was getting married in Jamaica & this is where he'd chosen to stay - more on the wedding in a mo)What a pleasant surprise:
The food is great, excellent choice, show cooking at breakfast, lunch & dinner.
We stayed in a Garden Cottage - again we were a little apprehensive these would be very basic, they're lovely, maids come every day & they keep it spotless!
All the staff were very friendly & the bar staff will happily serve you half a dozen drinks at a time & they don't expect tips. George at the 'jetty bar' bar is lovely - he helps all the small children onto the swings at the bar. In fact all the staff are great with the kids.
The hotel is set on its own beaches, all with numerous sunbeds, sometimes the sea was a bit choppy to be able to do the watersports but it certainly didn't spoil our holiday.
As I mentioned my brother got married, he & his wife chose the wedding gazebo (the other choice is a beach setting) - it ran like clockwork, the rdcc has its own wedding co-coordinator called Anne & she sorts everything out it was beautiful day!
All-in-all a great complex & we'd definitely stay there again!

The rdcc staff made you feel very welcome and the bungalows, set in beautiful lush gardens were a delight. Air conditioning (quiet!!) and the largest bed we have ever seen!!
Evening meals, outside, by candlelight, right next to the beach with the waves gently rolling in and to top it all the food was really good, it does not get any better.
The staff were very friendly nothing too much trouble and always a smile.
But there is always a down side and here it is....plastic glasses at the bar. Do not dispair tho'keep your drinks glass from your meal table and use it all night long!!!!! sorted!!!
Needless to say we would go again and again, it really was very good value for money.

Accommodation is in garden view and ocean front cottages which give the resort a very quaint and authentic Caribbean feel. Ours was an ocean front - right on the beach and we could lie in bed and look right out across the sea. What more could you ask for? The rooms were simple but spotless with ceiling fan, air-con unit, plenty hot water, t.v. (limited chanels) and ample hanging space. Bed was huge and comfy.
The food was much better than we had expected with lots of fresh fruit and salad and themed buffet dinners e.g. Italian, Mexican, Caribbean etc.
The RDCC is located right on the beach in Runaway Bay and while there is nothing there it is only a bus run away from Ocho Rios for shopping and the excursions on offer are excellent and get you away from the resort for a day or two. We went on the Blue Mountain Bike Trip, climbed the Dunns River Falls and swam with the dolphins (the icing on the cake!).
The only down side about the location is that the sea is very rocky and it is not really suitable for swimming. However there are two pools to choose from - one where all the entertainment goes on during the day and the other an adult's only pool which is nice and quiet. There is also a sunbathing deck built out on a jetty over the water which is known as the "Swing Bar".
Staff worked very hard to make sure your holiday was all you hoped it would be and we had nothing but praise for those we had dealings with. The bar staff were funny and always smiling and kept you topped up, although the plastic cups are very small - particularly if you drink beer. Cocktails were excellent however.
Entertainment was of a good standard and quite varied with live bands (lots of reggae of course) dancers and the inevitable Mr/Ms Royal Decameron Club etc. Once a week a local craft market is set up in the evening and this gives you an opportunity for gift shopping without venturing away from the resort if you don't want to.
Another fun night was the crab racing - minimum bet $3 - we broke even!
This was our first trip to the Caribbean and we loved every minute and if we go back to Jamaica we will definitely stay at RDCC. If you have been considering this resort but have been doubtful DO NOT HESITATE - you will not be sorry. Jamaica - it's "irie mon".

Food was good (plenty of salads, local fruits & goodies) with theme nights & jerk chicken to die for!
The plastic beakers were a bit "cheap" & no good for beer drinkers, although you could take as many as you could carry.
