Take a torch for night-time. Returning to the hotel at night is dangerous.

Get a ground room floor as it will help as there are no lifts to the other floors so it can be a bit of a walk with a pram.
Make sure on the strip you visit the Meze restaurant with the funny symbols in the name. It is one of the best Meze places in Protaras. Also Molti was a great restaurant to stay in.

The resort of protaras can be quite lively, but the liveliest area is ayia napa about 15mis in a cab.The beach is both sandy and rocky.

We would go to this resort again, even though there seemed to be Elvis singers in a lot of the bars. There was plenty of other bars to pick from. It was nice that the bars were all mostly together. As we had previously stayed in Ayia napa on several occassions, we actually prefered protarus even though it is smaller resort, its ideal for people 40+

Pernera is just outside Protaras and is basically one main road with a few small roads off. There are 3 small beaches that are all close together these beaches are very clean and not busy , which ever hotel you are in a beach is only a short walk.Thera are some nice places to eat the italian opposite the seagull is exellent and also Island oasis(try the rack of baby ribs ).by far the livliest bar is knights bar,Karaoke night is good as the dj gets everybody involved,be prepared to get on your chair.Protaras is 5 mins on the bus which runs every half an hour .Best of both worlds.Very quite place but close to more nightlife if you want it .

first time in cyprus so didnt know what to expect, felt it was a very relaxing /safe resort didnt feel you needed to be on guard like resorts in mainland spain and tenerife,no hassle with touts which is a big plus and all age groups in resort lots of wedding parties beach especially fig tree bay was excellent but would imagine very busy in high season found eating out quite expensive, drinks not too bad,but to many bars with elvis impersonators and no-where open really late would visit again but couldnt do 2 weeks as only really one long main steet, excellent bar at top of main street called spinx

Protaras not particularly scenic apart from the beach/headland area which is gorgeous with plenty watersports and boat trips etc, also easy access for local buses to Paralimni; Aya Napa and Nicosia etc However plenty to do at night to suit all tastes without being too rowdy! Too many Elvis bars though but fun to watch some! Highly recommend restaurant Perla Blue - T Bone steak and trimmings £5.95 service excellent and desserts out of this world! In Eden Square, Mykonos Greek Taverna very good. Entertainment at Square very good if you want a change from Elvis! Live music or dancing shows most nights and Cypriot guitarist/singer Josef excellent. Also TeeJays bar opposite square have very good Abba tribute band and bar staff friendly with excellent service both at night and lunch time with lovely views from terrace. Had prev been to Troodos by car but this year decided to book tour to Troodos through Iman travel on strip, cheaper than tour operators, good selection of trips and Cypriot guide Julie was excellent, found more relaxing than driving and plenty stops in various local areas or view points; tavernas/wine tasting on way to Troodos also stop for Cypriot lunch in family run taverna was good value (£5) and very tasty.
Have been a few times to Protaras and it is still changing but always enjoyable and Cypriot people very hospitable and friendly.

Stayed in Ixia, Rhodes, the resort was around an hours walk to Rhodes town taking in the heat, cooler days would be a quicker walk, the place was okay for a a base, a few bars and restaurants to choose from and shops.
The beach is narrow and shingle, this did not bother me as I am not a beach person, but if you have children it would not be suitable, lots of water sports on offer near all the hotels.
There is not a lot of entertainment in bars, this seems to be because most of the hotels have gone AI and guests are not venturing into the local bars which is a shame because some of them are brilliant, try the bar owned by the Two Canadian brothers brilliant company.

Protaras itself is very tacky! But like I said earlier this village is on the outskirts so you can take it or leave it. We thought the resturants in Prot. were expensive however it is still cheaper than eating out in UK. If you venture inland to Paralimni and beyond look for where the locals are eating, you will be in for a treat. 4 of us ate and drank all we could for less than £20 one night and children are made very welcome. In Prot. you will be paying £35 plus (Cypriot)

Protarus is a lovely friendly resort.
The locals do not pester you to go in their shops or bars. We seen a couple of Elvis's and a good Tina Turner.Their is plenty of watersports on the beaches.
The views are beautiful. We are going to return to this resort for a family wedding as it was the best holiday we have all had. We were upset to come home. Do not hesitate to go to this fantastic hotel. Have fun.
I loved it there because Ben Rebecca Julie played games with all the kids that came we had the best holiday ever from the tudor twins.

Absolutely fantastic place we have been twice and are going back again in August. I would thoroughly recomend the Corner Restaurant as the food was lovely and the staff very friendly.
Whilst we were there one of our party fell ill and the medical service she received was about 100 times better than it would have been in the UK.
Only downfall is once you've visited Protaras you won't want to go anywhere else!!
