Flights were very good on a 737. Very clean, ahead of schedule, adequate legroom, good timings and decent food. Drinks and snacks are all payable on top of the standard meal water and tea/coffee.
Plane was half empty perhaps due to the recent terrorist attack in nearby Taba. You get a glimpse of the destroyed Hilton at the checkpoint near Taba, now semi-covered in green tarpaulin. Sobering experience. The coaches then turn South to Taba Heights, usually in a small convoy. Discreet security measures and occasional glimpses of vehicles and police watching out.
Hyatt first impressions were very good. The infrastructure and layout of the hotel is superb, spacious and varied, definitely a 5* design, with ample sunbeds, swimming pools and bars scattered around. This seems to be where the majority of the investment has gone. I won't repeat the points of others.
The weather in our week was 'varied', as cold as 15deg C on one day, but rising to 33deg C on others. Always a breeze, cold enough to make people grab for their sweaters and give up on sunbathing for 2 days. It must be mentioned that the sun rises and sets very early at this time of year, sun vanishes at 3.30 and it's pitch black by 5pm.
This gave us a chance to explore the rest of the facilities on offer.
Gym was well fitted out, with a small sauna, steam bath and plunge pool. Thai massage was very good (315LE for one hour). Internet facilites are currently very poor, with one old slow computer and a 33kbps dial up connection, so booking was essential. High speed access hasn't reached Taba Heights yet with the relative isolation and lack of development playing a part.
We stayed in a "deluxe sea view room" with an advertised rack rate of 210US$ per night. Rooms are not 5* equipped, but the potential is there. Spacious, very clean, but no tea or coffee facilities, no complimentary water (unusual for a hot country), old TV on dressing table, basic furniture and amenities. In-room electronic safe was handy.
This was adequate for a couple like us used to backpacking, but I'd imagine somebody used to full service hotels and expecting 5* 'all mod cons' would be quite disappointed. Cleaners were excellent, very friendly and just about the best staff in the hotel.
Restaurant for half board breakfast and dinner is the Limoncello on a buffet basis. We loved the food and only got bored towards the end of the week. Lots of salad dishes made from eggplant, pumpkin, zucchini, avocado's, pepper's with dollops of hummous, fresh bread etc.. Usually 3 meats, fish, and the normal accompaniments.
Breakfast's were identical every day, your normal British cooked fare and also Middle Eastern salads, with lots of fruit, juices and a great egg station.
Half board guests also get 40LE (

Rooms are very spacious with a big terrace/balcony and big double beds. No tea/coffee facilities, although it's so hot (100oF) that you won't need them. In rooms safe is free also. Take snacks with you as coke etc is more expensive from anywhere in the hotel, particularly the little shop.
Beach towels were available and the pool areas were superb, not very busy in October and plenty of space and choice of pools. Snorkelling was excellent just off the jetty on the hotel's private beach.
Food is okay but definitely not five star, mainly because the choice for main courses is not that wide (starters and desserts are good though) and we were basically rushing to the toilet for the week, it is highly likely you will be too so beware. This was the only problem, everything else was perfect, staff were very friendly and couldn't do enough for you, it was permanently hot but be aware of hours of daily sunshine, by 4pm the sun was setting and by 6pm it's pitch black.
Health club was very good, take your goggles because the lap pool is tremendous. All in all a great holiday for relaxing and getting away from it all at a cheap price.
Tips: Take loads of US dollars as they want tips and often paying in this currency, they don't like their own. Take tablets for your stomach because you will have diorhoea. Take wet wipes to clean your hands after handling their money as it is very old and dirty. Take loads of suntan lotion because it's expensive over there.

The flight over was tight with little legroom and no entertainment and I found having to buy a drink a bit off.
1st impressions when arriving at Taba International were not good as there is little there and the surrounding area looked unfinished.
When arriving at the hotel we were served a cool drink, which was a welcome hello after the 45 minute of so transfer from the airport. We had booked two rooms, one with a double bed and the other with twins for our two children, 15 and 16 though were allocated two rooms with double beds so had to arrange for a

The hotel is designed in an attractive, bedouin style, so looks more like a village than a hotel. Our room was really spacious, with a perfect view of the sea and the choice and quality of food in the restaurant was really good. Neither of us were ill, (despite having ice in all our drinks!) although other people did complain of an upset stomach.
The lebanese restaurant is great for lunchtime snacks and the fish restaurant is nice for a romantic evening meal. There was no problem getting a sunbed in the morning and all the pools were large, well designed and inviting.
All the staff were really friendly and made the holiday very relaxing. Definitely do the snorkelling trip on the VIP ONE, a great day out - you can even do an intro dive on there aswell(although its not advertised) Snorkelling off the jetty was also really good, best time to do it is first thing in the morning i.e. 8am, before breakfast! Evening entertainment was limited although the 'international dance show' was rather comical. We will definitely be going back!

My partner is vegetarian and enjoyed the food. The hotel did get full but didn't feel full at all as there was always space around the pool or on the beach. The snorkelling from the beach was amazing.
Just a tip for anyone who's going, go on to the Hyatt website and apply for a gold passport. This entitles you to a number of things for example free daily tea, coffee or soft drink. Room upgrades when available, free breakfast in your room ect. It doesn't sound much but if you stayed for two weeks as we did it saved us a lot of money.
I would highly recommend the Hyatt in Taba and would love to go back.

On the way to the hotel, Longwood representative provided us each with a cooled mineral water which was very appreciated.
When we did arrive at the hotel at about 3am, there was a welcoming drink made from kerkade flower, although it was too sweet and sour for our taste but still a nice gesture. From the start, the porter and the hotel staff that showed us our room seemed very eager to please and were friendly.
Our room A439 had a dome and a seaview. We were there on a honeymoon package, which entitled us to a free upgrade to a room with seaview, a complimentary 30 minute massage each, breakfast in bed and candlelight dinner served at the balcony as well as access to VIP amenities. However, we only took advantage of the massage and that was alright. We also got invitations to a drinks reception and behind the scene to Hyatt's Food and Beverages department, but could not make it to any of them. Not so sure whether those invites were part of the package or all guests received them but I thought of mentioning it here.
There was a plate of cold cheese and meat slices for snacks waiting for us on the coffee table in the room since we missed our dinner upon arrival. Guests are also entitled to request for food boxes if they are going to be away from the hotel during breakfast or dinner such as excursions.
To us, the room was nice and would have been nicer if the air cond could be cooler and a bathtub is included (ours is the standard room). There is a fridge but it is only sufficient in cooling drinks and not for food storage as the temperature is not that cold. There were no mossies at all during our stay, in the room nor around the resort. We brought our own kettles and standard european two prong adapters.
The food in our opinion was excellant. The buffet contained lots of varieties and they fit our taste buds in varying degrees. There was pizzas for vegetarians everyday, and varied choices of main course and specials including fish, veals, crabs and chicken shwarma. My favourite was the steamed rice. I am a Malaysian and rice is our staple food but I am not a great fan as I think it is boring. However, Egyptian rice is very tasty and I ate at least 2 portions everynight. We also ordered fresh juices sometimes and they are highly recommended. It felt like drinking the fruit themselves especially the mango juice. Yummy! For breakfast, my favourites were the omelettes, cooked upon request with varied fillings, and doughnuts. There was also waffles, pastries and others such as beef bacon, sausages and falafels.
We are the type that are quite open to new tastes and like to eat in huge quantities. That is one of the reason we only dined in the main dining area, Limoncello. Guests have the options to try Tanour, a Lebanese restaurant and will be given LE40 credit each to dine there. The other reason is that we like to eat in air conditioned atmosphere and Tanour is outdoor.
I rate hotel location as 5 as I think it is at the best location in Taba Heights. It is the best hotel there because, first, to us was the existence of a jetty that allowed guests to snorkel without having to step on the reefs which could be fatal due to stonefishes. Besides, stepping on them would kill the corals and destroy the environment. Second, Hyatt was designed in such a way that it looked like a village rather than a hotel, from our diving boat especially, with its multi coloured and shaped buildings. There are 5 pools altogether, kids pool, a scuptured pool, a lap pool, a split level pool with an island bar and a salt water pool. There is also a casino in house. The location is also convenient for visiting other hotels such as Sofitel, Marriot and soon to be Intercontinental as these hotels are en route to Waterworld by a shuttle service provided by Waterworld at every hour. Radisson SAS for instance is located quite far away and their shuttle service is separately scheduled.
The hotel staff are the most helpful and friendliest. One of them even helped us outside the hotel when we accidentally met on a bus to Cairo.
As for entertainment, we were too busy and too tired to mind much for the lack of night entertainment. We did our PADI Open Water Dive Course, climbed Mount Sinai, parasailing and wakeboarding as well as independent 3 day trip to Cairo in the course of 2 weeks and it was quite hectic. However, we did manage to catch a glimpse of few of the shows. It was entertaining enough for us. Check the hotel activities schedule. We took notice of it too late. I would have gone for their belly dancing class had I known of its existence. There is also a gym, sauna, tennis, table tennis and a game room. We also filled most of our time snorkelling. We saw a turtle twice and that was very fun.
I said I would return because I loved it very much. However, in the near future, it might be more expensive than now due to the on going development of turning Taba Heights into one of the most attractive tourist attraction in the Red Sea. When we left, a few of the hotel staffs including the porters, chefs and maitre'd waved us goodbye. I cried feeling very sad to leave the beautiful place as well as the friends we made of the staff. Chances are, we will never meet again.
