We stayed in Agia Marina but didnt really spend much time there. We did go on the beach once and there was a constant supply of traders trying to sell you things from Thai massage to doughnuts! It is a great base for traveling around this side of the island, there are far worse places to stay. The pavement in town is narrow and would be an issue for buggies or wheel chairs but we did see people cope. I would reccomend people to buy a guide book and hire a car as there is so much to see and do ,stunning views, beuatiful mountains, why go all the way there and miss all the good bits.

The Sirios is located in Kato Daratso which is a few kilometres outside of Chania on one side and Agia Marina and Platanias on the other, however I found this an advantage because a 5 euro taxi fare (cheaper by bus) took me to these resorts and then back to the quite Sirios for a good nights sleep.
There is no entertainment in the hotel but plenty close by.
The beaches in the above resorts are lovely, and would go back tomorrow.
The hotel caters for mainly Scandinavians as does the whole of west Crete but this is an advantage because most of the drunken obnoxious brits go to the south malia etc.

Not as upmarket as we hoped. Busy main road through resort, narrow pavements, and very busy at night. Marina small and tatty, beach by it not great but better in main resort with cheaper sun beds.

The hotel is situated in a small village called Rapaniana. There are 2 mini markets and 3 tavernas - all incredibly quiet.
The beach is mainly pebble with parasol & sun-bed hire, a snack bar and boat hire. The waves here can be pretty big making swimming difficult.

Whilst the hotel was in a quiet location, Platanias itself is very commercialised and busy.

Very pretty cosy resort but you could not stay for more than a week as very limited resturants and i know greece is layed back but prepare to be in a resturant for at least 2 hrs and its not as if they want to make money on drink cause that takes ages as well. But if you want a relaxing easy holiday worth a visit. The beaches are sand not that big but not over crowded the sea is warm and sky blue. there are 3 beaches in the resort. The best place to eat in the day was fionas very nice and not over a hour in the evening scotts or dunes quite good.

A bit noisy with quite a lot of traffic along the main street. Beach was ok although we've been to better. The beat idea is to hire a car and find your own beach.

The resort has a garage and 2 small gift shops. 2 tavernas and a beach cafe.

The resort has the charm that we are seeking when in Greece. The food is great there. Shops sell just what we need. Location is great as its close to Chania, benefits from mountain views, great beaches and secluded villages that teem with life and culture. It is a small beach in the heart of the village, but as its a short journey to Kalives where the beach is great, this proved not to be an issue to us.

Platanias is a nice, typical holiday resort, same wares on offer everywhere.
Lots of bars and restaurants available, we ate out 7 nights. A trip to Zaffaranos (across road from hotel) is recommended, we went twice, food and service 1st class, can get a bit chilly later on. THe garden is also well worth a visit. WE also went to "the living room" a very modern bar, with leather seats and fancy cocktails, not too expensive for a swanky night out.
We took the bus into chania for the day, I was a bit disapointed as there were not as many shops as anticipated. Quite a nice port to stroll around.
WE went to the water park on the only day it rained but still enjoyed the usual water theme park rides.
Further down the beach from the hotels reserved section the beach becomes very crowded, however if you are staying at the Minoa Palace this is not an issue.
