Very attractive harbour area, very pretty at night with boats lit up. Many tree-lined squares with fantastic choice of open-air bars, restaurants. Many shops, souvenir type and better. Whole town is quite compact and clean with many archaeological sites, a few large and many smaller ones dotted all over the town. Lots of boat trips available, including to Turkey.
The immediately surrounding area is quite flat and there are a great many cyclists (and places to hire cycles). Very busy traffic in the town centre.
The sandy beach at Lambi(5 mins walk from town centre) is quite pleasant with sunbeds, umbrellas, etc with many tourist shops and restaurants. Sea clear. Probably gets quite crowded at the height of the season.
It feels a very safe, very friendly resort.

Kos Town was good. Plenty to do within a fairly short walk. Plenty of choice for food, historical sites and tour the area on a small train for a just a few euros.
On the down side you are constantly hassled to go into the many eateries around and though there are lots of shops they all sell pretty much the same thing.

Kos town is very nice particularly the old town where there is a large choice of tavernas and cafe/bars. The harbour is very pretty but be careful about eating in the restaurants opposite the harbour - we tried one on our 2nd night and it was the worst meal of the holiday. After that we avoided eating near the harbour and all our other meals were lovely. Restaurants to mention are the Caravan owned by Hassan a lovely guy, very friendly and helpful and boomerangs. As we were on a family holiday we avoided Bar Street and enjoyed the Blues Brothers for strong cocktails! and free non alcholic ones for our youngest. Hired a car from ML Rent a car for 3 days to see more of the island - went to Mastihari - lovely and quiet, nice beach; visited Kefalos beach and town, again worth a visit, very nice. We also did the greek night at Zia privately while we had the car as it costs a fortune through the reps - this is a good night out. All in all we had a lovely holiday and Kos town is very nice but our accommodation took the edge off it for us.

Kos Town itself is lovely the harbour is pretty, a must do is the castle at the entrance, it will cost 3 euros to get in but its worth it. Everyone is so friendly and being a very continental resort its not full of britsh larger lout types. After going on a tour of the island we had decided certainly chosen the best location to stay. Heard bad things about the beaches around Kos Town but i can say we had no complaints. Kos isnt a beach holiday destination anyway, but if you want a lovely sandy spot then Tingaki and Marmariare a short bus trip away. Kos Town isnt really a clubby resort but it has some nice bars particualy on the harbour side for watching the world go by, There is usually a Very Long!!! Happy Hour at most of the bars along the front where the cocktails are on 2 for 1.
Since we used this site to guide us where to eat we thought we better give our 2 pennies worth. Particular mention goes out to DON ANTONIO'S - Fantastic Italian and the best pizza i have ever had ( just off dolphin roundabout oposite pantheon). LA STREGA - Great service and food had 3 courses for 7 euros cant be beaten ( left at the end of the lane, right at the next crossroads then right again, you will see is on your right) SUNSET - Again great food and service highly recomended is the Greek Platter (left at the end of the lane, right at the next crossroads, continue to you get to the crossroads with the basketball courts on and turn left you will see it on your left after a few hundred yards). PANTHEON - (off dolphin roundabout) great Greek food and certainly the most delicious bread we had while we waited.
Thompson - Out Rep Jo was great not there all the time but every evening for an hour and on Friday and Sunday morning for the new arrivals. We took 3 tours Turkey (highly recomended), Nyssoros (Must do, wont tell you about it as i will go on for ages, just go there yourself it speeks for itself) and the Tour of Kos Island. Because we had booked 3 ours we got to go to Zia in the evening for a meal and to see the Sunset for 1 euro, it was trully beutifull and worth going for.

The resort of Kos was very nice, they is plenty of bars and restaurants to go to.
The only thing I didn't like about Kos was the beach, it was made up of stones and no sand.
I am visiting Kos again this year.

We loved Kos Town and will definitely return!
The beach is shingle and quite painful to walk on (particularly when its very hot)!! This wasn't a problem for us as we had a good pool at our hotel but if you are serious beach lovers then bear it in mind. There were sunbeds and parasols for hire all the way up the beach but we didn't used them so I have no idea of the cost. If you didn't want to use these then you would need to walk quite far up the beach to find somewhere to park yourself!
Kos Town is lovely and the people are very friendly and helpful.
There are lots of bars and restaurants and we had some fantastic food. Otto e Mezzo is an excellent Italian restaurant in the Old Town and Edem is a great Greek restaurant. We also visited the Sunburnt Arms which is on the beach (run by a Greek man and his English wife) - good for a proper cuppa and an English brekkie when you're getting withdrawal symptoms!
We didn't venture outside of Kos Town as we were looking for a chill out holiday and that's what we did! When we return I'd really like to visit Paradise Beach as I heard lots of good tales about it - its meant to be lovely!

Kos Town is clean and well maintained. What ruins it somewhat is the large number of scooters being ridden by locals and tourists. The bars on the front are nice to sit in and look at all the boats with a drink.
The old town is very pretty with many small tavernas in the winding streets. Worth exploring. There are also plenty of ruins to look around.
It is worth catching the bus up to the hot springs for an afternoon. The bus ystem is quite confusing. There are two types and two depots. The main bus station is up behind the main square/market. These buses go all over the island whilst the ones leaving from the front go only around Kos Town.
