Skiathos Town is the only resort on the island ... so expect all of the other areas to be quieter! Troulos was very small and quiet but that was exactly what we wanted. There are about 4 restaurants on the beach and then about 6 restaurants in the main part of Troulos. However do go off the main road - we discovered restaurants and bars down side roads at the end of our holiday (by the bus stop). We didn't have a bad meal all holiday to be honest. It is more expensive in Skiathos Town - so we only ate there twice. The best restaurant was Nectar Ambrosia. Gorgeous food, wine and atmosphere. They even had a decent vegetarian section. The Italian in Troulos was also good and you get lots of freebies. Restaurants on the beach are not great but ok for the first night. Troulos Bay Hotel was ok but much more expensive than the other tavernas. Go to Green Park (bus stop 16) ... it is down a side road - but well worth the walk. Beautiful surroundings - really relaxing meal. Finally we stumbled across Taverna Moypia in Skiathos Town (just off the main shopping street) ... really lovely!
The beach in Troulos is lovely and is only minutes from La Luna. The snack bar on the end by the short cut to La Luna serves really good cheap food. Also they don't seem to charge for sunbeds at that end. Banana Beach is also lovely - be warned you might struggle to get a car up the hill. Asselinos was another secluded and beautiful beach -but bit of a steep climb down to it through a wood.
We did get the bus into Skiathos Town a few times but this was for shopping more than dining out. Went to the outdoor cinema there - really good experience!
First Choice were good - we had a 24 hour delay coming back which they handled well. However I think the excursions are a bit pricey. We did the Carousel Cruise which was enjoyable but nothing special really and it cost 50 Euros each!
Troulos is a lovely resort and I would definitely go there again!

Only a short distance to local amenities. Ten minutes walk from beach. Beautiful clear sea. Plenty tavernas within walking distance serving good food reasonably priced. Twenty minutes bus ride from Skiathos town. Enjoyed it so much booked to go again next year!

Troulos is a quiet resort. May is a good time to go if you prefer it a bit quieter like us.!As the season was just starting it was quiet until the end of the second week.We knew the island was steep but we enjoyed walking and this was not a problem. We walked to the dog sanctuary and took two cute dogs for a walk. Local people are really friendly. Koukinaries beach is a must do. Great bus service. Try the BBQ in Skiathos town just off the beach front, its brilliant. The whole experience was very positive.

Very quiet resort, very spread out with lost of walking. Nectar Ambrosia v. nice restaurant, food exceptional and great service from the very appropriately dressed staff!
Lovely little beach bar at the La Luna end of the beach, not sure of the name but it was run by a lovely family who were continually overfeeding us with little extras! Best Greek salad on Skiathos!
Spent a lot of evenings in Skiathos Town as had 2 teenage girls who liked the buzz there! Polikratis Taverna lovely food, The Windmill too was romantic, great views and delightful food, though we climbed to the top of Skiathos Town to The Windmill in probably 40+ deg heat and it took us 2 litres of cold water to recover! I probably wouldnt take children - too expensive and they wouldnt appreciate it! Buses were very crowded in late July especially. But for 4 it was only 4 euros extra to take a taxi. Better to walk up to bus stop 21 from La Luna to make sure you can get on the bus in July and August! Otherwise catch on the other side of the road to Koukounaries and stay on it for the return journey!
We enjoyed Skiathos, but think we have now exhausted it - we saw most of the island by hiring a jeep for 4 days and a scooter for 2 (not for the faint hearted!)and a motor boat for a day - great fun but a little scarey at times as we chose quite a windy day and broke down just outside Kaniptsa Bay, but a local Greek came to our rescue on a kayak! Mandraki was our favourite beach with a nice beach bar with ice cold beer and 'little fish' for lunch!

Troulos is a nice resort for couples. There are not many bars but an abundance of Restaurants to eat in. We particularly enjoyed the beachside Tavernas overlooking the Sea. To take full advantage of Skiathos's delights we hired a Jeep. This enabled us to visit secluded beaches and Tavernas in the mountains with stunning veiws

Troulos is very pretty, quite spread out and very quiet by Greek holiday standards. If you have children the Green Meadows Taverna has a good play area and the food is good the family are very nice. The beach is lovely and safe for small children. If you want nightlife you have to go into Skiathos town which isn't far and the taxi price is reasonable.
If you going round the island by car you really need a 4 by 4 especially if considering going to the dog shelter - although we did see some hardy souls walking up!
Beautiful Island great for a family beach holiday.

A very quiet and peaceful resor but an ideal base for visiting the rest of this beautiful island. I would definetly reccomend hiring a Jeep for the duration of your stay as without one you will be missing out on some wonderful vistas. Although there is a bus that runs through the resort it does only run from one end of Skiathos to the other along the only main road and a Jeep would enable you to visit some wonderfully remote and gorgeous beaches

Fantastic beaches close by and would definately recommend the hiring of a motor boat for the day where you will find deserted beaches and fantastic scenery. Skiathos town has some wonderful bars and the tapas bar served delicious food. Would definately go back to the resort and was more than happy with the appartments

Not much to do for children apart from a small crazy golf. Evening entertainment revolved around eating unless you travelled into Skiathos towm (20 minute bus journey) for the evening boat trips, shopping and discos etc.
