Malta is OK, very British, rather over developed, mild climate, food and wine good value, locals are friendly and speak English, scenery pleasant rather than inspiring, cheap good transport on very ancient buses, quite a lot to see or do, Valetta & Mdina worth visiting, a good relaxing long stay venue in the winter, much beloved of working class Northerners, English newspapers/cinemas, etc. Bournemouth with sunshine, but probably overcrowded in the season.

Not impressed with Qawra unfortunately, it looked like a building site, unfinished buildings everywhere and rubble. The shops had shutters on them, giving a derilict feel to the area. Those that were open were ok, but selling the usual tat. There were a couple of good places to eat out - one of them was called Incognito - the best food ever. Plenty of good food, great steaks, lovely staff and wonderful value for money. Michael, head waiter was a lovely man. They brought out a big bbq on the Sat night and cooked our steaks in front of us! Amazing!
Beware of the touts trying to sell you apartments/timeshares. Once they have you in their grip, they don't want to let you go! They are a right pain and just tell them no from the outset. We got caught by them and ended up walking out of the hotel away from the man who was pleading with us to stay and buy something from him - he'd given us a meal afterall!!!!!
In Winter, Qawra and the surrounding areas aren't pretty - think Rhyl on a bad day! We'd never stay here again - if we were going to visit Malta again, Slielma or Valletta would be our choices. But not Qawra, sadly. Especially as the streets were covered in dog poop!!! Fortunately, the highlight of our holiday ws that we had Maltese friends, who took us around the island and if it wasn't for that, we would have gone crazy in this resort. The Maltese people are exceptionally nice people, very friendly and would give you anything.

The resort is quite quiet, but is within easy reach of Buggiba, and very safe to walk along the promenade at night as very well lit. Extremely clean, and was very impressed that they have a lot of public toilets along the promenade too, and too many bins to count, which people actually seemed to use.

Within 5 minutes walk of the bus station making it very easy to get to anywhere on the island, and the fares are so cheap it is great, almost as good as the ride itself when you get on the back seat of those old buses.

We managed to find a fantastic bar up tourist street which is at the side of the hotel, and there are many to choose from up there, all welcome children too, and the prices are very good for both drinks and snacks.

A very safe and very clean resort with the added bonus of being nice and peaceful too

Resort was clean no litter No bad smells except in the Qawara Inn (Palm Court hotel)
There was some reasonable entertainment around in hotels and bars. (Try the Qawara Palace just a few yards along the sea front entertainment every night)
The beach is rocky and the only place to get sunbeds and shades within reasonable distance is the Qawara palace but get there early its popular.

There wasn't alot to do around the immediate area, a short walk to Bugibba is where all the shops etc are.
As a whole the island is clean and tidy, very welcoming with gorgeous scenary. The locals were very helpful and pleasant.
BE AWARE of time share people - predominently looking for british families (parents between 30 - 70) these can come in the form of blue tickets and were everywhere near the hotel. Be warned about reps asking you to go and visit their hotel, to pull you in and coax you into an agreement, they'll say "you only need to stay an hour", we met someone who went and was there for six hours.
There is no beach here, infact there are very few beaches on the island. The sea was crystal clear and great for snorkeling etc.
Buses take you everywhere on the island, the fee you pay (about 50p) is for the whole journey regardless how far you actually need to travel.
Local restaurants welcome your custom. We found the costs similar the uk but the portion sizes are alot bigger than we expected.
We would definitely consider returning to Malta but we would try a different part of the island.

There isn't much of a beach (sand) In Qawra or Buggiba but, there are plenty of places to park a sun bed. The resort is a darn sight cleaner that the resorts in the Uk and the Maltese are a darned sight friendlier than the British. There are pleanty of places for entertainment, especially if you like Elvis impersonators or Karaoke. A Visit to the Bus station enables the tourist to visit almost anywhere in Malta at a very low cost. I cannot think of one complaint about Qawra/Buggiba
