Sliema is ideal for those who want a base to explore Valletta, but cannot afford to stay in the Phoenicia! It is also convenient for buses to the rest of Malta. There is no beach, but there are bars, restaurants, and loads of shops. Many are familiar names such as Marks & Spencer and BHS, but there are designer stores selling well known Italian fashions.

After travelling around the rest of the island, we realised that we were in the best and the flattest part.
Everywhere was very hilly apart form Sliema Promenade which is very nice.
There is no beach, its all concrete and sandstone to sit on and the sea is a little wild at times.
We found the shops and they were ok. Bodyshop, Wallis, Dorothy Perkins, Zara etc and the usual Mcdonalds, Burger King and Pizza Hut.
They have ferry trips and harbour cruises but they seem to go for the hard sell for the cruises, you get hassled every few yards equally by these and the timeshare touts.
the place is very grey with concrete and lots of litter.
I wouldnt return to the island again as I feel we have much better places in the med that offer more and are a lot cleaner.

Sliema is a great place for boat trips but has no beach.
Timeshare touts are on the water side of the promenade. Tell them you live there or try & get a holiday reps ID or something that looks like one.
We hired a car as you need one if you want to feel free & do what you want to do.
There are a great deal of trips by coach, boat or jeep. The buses are very cheap but try & use the older ones. What an experience!!
Sliema is also great for shopping & eateries.

we didnt find the resort as clean as other places we have been. the place is designed fr the older age group i would say the average age group i would say is 55-60
the beach we went on was shingle and the sea was dirty all it was good for was reducing the dry skin on your feet
we would not visit this resort again
some love and some hate malta all i will say we didnt love it.

You must take a trip on the old buses. They are brilliant uncomfortable but great fun. They are going to be removed from early next year when Malta goes over to the Euro due to health and safety issues so make the most of them. The new ones aren't the same.
Take a trip into Valletta and visit The Upper Barracca Gardens. Fantastic views over the Grand Harbour. We went on our own but there are lots of trips organised by the travel companies. We visited a Festa, great fun but it goes on a little too long. There are only so many fireworks you can watch.

Sliema itself was set on a long promenade which was lovely to walk along in the evenings, there is a huge selection of bars and restaurants quality of food varies and not all serve good maltese food. There are many shops along the front and up side streets sadly a lot of the same shops we get in England eg Next and Marks and Spencer.Although we love Malta we would not stay in Sliema again - too touristy . Gozo is much nicer , cleaner quieter and you get more of a feel for the real Malta there.
