Location
It was our first time at this hotel and were very pleased with all aspects apart from entertainment.
The rooms were clean and airy, overlooking St Pauls Bay. The bed linen was changed once during the week and clean towels were provided daily.
We found all the staff to be friendly and helpful.
Meals were first class with plenty of choice.

Reception on arrival was excellent, all in all the reception staff were very pleasant throughout our stay.
Food was a problem for myself as I have coeliacs disease, an allergy to gluten. I dreaded the thought of going on holiday abroad and not kowning what sort of food the hotel provided. After letting the head waiter and the chef know, the problem was solved. Each morning the waiter would bring me the menu and I would choose what I wanted. It was then cooked the way I could eat it. Not only could I enjoy my meals but also my holiday. Top marks to the waiters and chefs.
My husband and I really enjoyed our holiday and will definitely return again (208)

The cleanliness has always been excellent but now they have replaced all the mattresses which are now excellent. The sheets have also been replaced so, although thin, they no longer have holes in them. The towels are a bit thin and scratchy but the superb location makes up for that!!
This time we only stayed b&b. Breakfast is fruit juice, cereal, bread, ham & cheese. Cooked English is available at a supplement.
The staff are excellent. Charles, Raymond and Andrew have been serving in the restaurant for many years and cannot be faulted. The reception staff are helpful and pleasant. The lady who serviced our room was absolutely faultless.
The pool area is immaculate and there are plenty of sunbeds.
I would recommend this hotel for older couples as there is not entertainment for children and the bar is soulless in the evening.
The hotel is situated in a quiet location but if you want a bit of life is is only ten minutes walk away around the harbour to Bugibba.
All in all highly recommended.

Room clean, staff all helpful and friendly.
Our first visit in 2004 was bed, breakfast and evening meal. We had soup each evening for the two weeks and every time it was different. Various choices of main meal, well cooked. Normal European breakfast with many choices. Cooked breakfast on request at a small charge. Those who complain about not getting a cooked breakfast each day should stay in the UK.
While this is an ideal hotel for those who do not want too many children around, the Maltese people love children and our granddaughter was treated like one of their own.
The pool was cleaned every morning as was the surrounding area. Good snacks were served at the pool bar, reasonably priced.
Hotel ideally situated at the end of the water. Quiet location.
No entertainment however that suited us.

Plastic balcony furniture has been painted, food has declined. The list goes on.
It is a great shame because this hotel is good looking and is in a prime location. Come Gillieru owners, spend some money and put things right or you will lose many guests.
On the positive side the staff are something for the hotel to be proud of. Charles, Raymond and Andrew. They all three always make our holiday there memorable. A perfect team.
The reception staff, Marianne, Odette and Mary Rose always friendly and helpful.

All the staff we met were very helpful and the meals were very good. we were always well fed with a varied selection throughout the fortnight.
Charles the Head Waiter is superb making everyone welcome. Would like to see coffee making facilities in the room but otherwise enjoyed our stay. we will be joining the regulars in going back again

(There is no entertainment at this hotel, nor did we want any. It was perfect for us in our middle age. There were a few children, who all behaved perfectly.

(2)room (501) excellent, cleaned and inspected daily by supervisor. towels changed daily, sheets every other day.we had road side room which was quiet.door closed at night with a/c on.
(3)restaurant very good always a varied menu, staff very pleasent and obliging, except for one staff member, who was very unpleasant to both myself and my wife he was the only downside of our holiday at the gillieru. he was in my opinion very rude to us also to two ladies in room 105. this was all over a key which the night receptionist gave to the wrong person, and he although proved wrong would not admit this or apologize.he would proberly get a porters job in the uk if the hotel was desperate enough.
(4)bar quiet but clean and good service.
(5)pool area always clean with plenty of loungers available.
(6)over all good and would return again

The linen was disgusting...grey and worn, with holes. The towels were grey and hard. I don't think all the towels were cleaned.
The breakfast was cheap compared to other breakfasts I have had at 3* european hotels.
The staff were civil but nor pleasant or friendly.
There is not tea/coffee facilities in the room.
The road facing apartments have no sound prooffing at all so you are waken early by the noise of the traffic going to the building site next to it.

The evening meals starter, main course and sweet were multi choice the menu did not repeat itself once over 2 weeks. Even the 3rd and 4th weeks seemed to vary from the first 2. The food was very good and the restaurant staff helpful.
The bar is quiet but adequate.
There is no entertainment in the hotel but this suited us.
The reception staff and cleaners all do the job they are there to do and are friendly enough, and Danny the night porter.... top bloke.
Though this hotel is far from the best on the island it will certainly take some beating. We have booked again for next year and are looking forward to it.
We think the location ideal. Close to bus stops and only a short walk to Bugibba and St Pauls where we often visited the Jim Harley bar where you can eat top quality home cooked food. His 'combo' is a must. The only downer on that is you are to full to eat your evening meal back at the hotel.
