The hotel is minutes away from the Tequilla and Playacar hotels which you can also use. There approx the same standard from what I could see.
The Yucatan being popular by day as it is close to the beach. For that reason I would suggest that you eat in the main restaurant at midday rather than the one close to the beach since its quieter and a far better choice.
The food variety is excellent the drinks are main brands if you ask for a particular type. The room, gardens and hotel in general we found excellent.
Just by the tequilla hotel is a small shopping plaza (and a atm) we used pesos for purchases since you get about 10% more than useing dollars. About 30 minutes walk away which was a long way in the heat, was playa carmen here was a greater selection of shops and cheaper than the plaza area, we also went here one night for a change of scenery, one long strip full of shops, bars and restaurants.
There was also a ferry from carmen which went to cosummel. Visited cancun 6 of us hired a minibus/driver for the day, he took us to markets and a modern shopping mall, found a lot of hurricane damage to hotels only 30% open.
Although it was great to visit the rui cancun hotel to have lunch and a drink.
It was found to have a much younger element of American students and a party like pool area.
The yucatan hotel location could not be faulted the staff superb.
Well in such a superb place I have two complaints which was the lack of sunbeds with shade by the pool or beach for that matter. Too get a lounger by pool you need to take fresh towels back to your apartment in the evening and place them on a lounger between 3 am and no later than 7 am.
I suggest that you either get up early (or drink in the all night bar)and then place your towels. I am not joking this is the truth, otherwise you must be prepared to sizzle in the 30 degree heat all day without shade.
It is a great shame that the management don't implement a rule that if a lounger is left unattended for 30 minutes you can remove the towels, some loungers remain empty for hours.
Finally for a couple like ourselves (aged around 50)the evening entertainment was dire. After the winners of the horseshoe throwing, rifle shooting, t/tennis, bingo, darts, etc etc competitions, were pulled up nightly and given their rui hat or bumbag we then had 4 men out the crowd dressed up has women doing press ups with their wives ontop.
The guitarist only new the same 6 numbers when he came on and the main top show which came on at 10pm was I will just say generally reasonable, there was quite good artists to be seen in playa carmen which the hotel could use.
This is all our personal opinion so don't let it spoil your stay. Remember it was 46 dollars (520 pesos)each tax to leave the country.

We visited this hotel 3 weeks after Hurricane Wilma, it was one of only a few that withstood the hurricane.
The hotel and it's staff were first class and I can only recommend this place to you all.
My only criticism is that most of the Riu hotels are open to the residents of the others and as this one is best located for the beach and it's facilities are first class, you tend to have guests from the other hotels taking up lounger's and generally making it look over crowed.

First time in Mexico and we wasn't disappointed.
Our rooms were cleaned everyday with clean towels and fridge and optics refilled every 2 days.
Hotel food while we were there (14 days) was something different every night. 3 other restaurants to visit, Asian excellent, steak house not very good and we didn't go to the seafood restaurant.
The hotel is quite near to the airport and a 5 min ride in a taxi to the local town $5.
The hotel staff are soo friendly and the pool bar staff are the best a good laugh was always had.
The entertainment was a very good in the day plenty to keep you amused. Evening entertainment was ok but the 10pm shows were good but after a week of watching dancing every nite you crave something else.
We are looking into booking for next year but want to do 3 weeks as 2 isn't enough.

Hi we stayed at the Riu Yucatan in August last year between hurricanes thankfully. The hotel had been newly refurbished for the beginning of the season and was fantastic.
There were lots to do in the day if you wanted, or if not plenty of places to just chill. The night time entertainment was good with a bit of something for everybody.
The food was great in the main dining room the only criticism was there was too much choice. There is in addition to the main restaurant three themed restaurants, a Chinese self service that was nice for a change. A sea food one that we didn

We stayed in the Yucatan for two weeks all inclusive - 24 hours.
First time to Mexico, and would definitely go back. Hotel took the force of hurricane Emily and survived with flying colours.
Rooms are cleaned every day, mini bar refilled every two days. All the staff are terrific and friendly.Nothing was ever a problem if you needed assistance.
Very safe area not to far from town. Relaxing too. Plenty of variey to eat all day if you want to. The beach was very clean with turquoise sea, just like the brochure.
Plenty of entertainment during the day and night with good entertainment team.

Never been to Mexico before. Highly delighted with the Riu Yucatan.
The organisation was very professional. Staff are very very pleasant.
Hotel and rooms very clean.
Food was good but did get a bit samey - perhaps we just got fed up of eating! The all inclusive deal is fantastic, includes beers and optics in room. We were also very welcome in other Rui hotels for lunch or a drink. Did a trip to Cancun and visited Riu hotels for eats and drinks - saved a packet.
The hotel beach is absolutely wonderful - turquoise sea, white sand, swaying palms etc. I hope it wasn't damaged too badly by hurricane Emily in 2005. Enjoyed it all so much we have booked another Riu in the Dom Rep for this October - hope it's as good as the Yucatan.
