There are a number a sandy beaches within a few miles of Riverside. Also some good places to fish.

Local people all very friendly. Plenty of places to eat and drink. Lots to see and do

The resort of Kyrenia is not a particularly beautiful place, infact in places it"s quite litter strewn and dirty and crawling with traffic. But the the place has charm, especially around the harbour area and the narrow streets behind. There"s plenty of shops and cafes, and restaurants are everywhere. Niazis and Ameretto were our favourite eating places.Niazis for its fantastic steaks and kebabs and Ameretto for top class english/cypriot cuisine cooked by a British trained master chef!Three course meals averaged £38 for 2 with wine, brandy and coffee. The harbour which is overlooked by the old castle is surrounded with dozens of alfresco restaurants,a beautiful sight on a late evening when the lights come on.A few places have entertainment, mostly Turkish folk singers and musicians.Belapais is a lovely village to visit, wether to visit the abbey or have a meal at one of the scenic restaurants in or overlooking the abbey.A ten minute taxi ride from central Kyrenia costs about £15 return including a tip,but if you book a meal, most places will pick you up and return you to your hotel free of charge. Kyrenia and the surrounding area is a massive building site of new villas and shops, but this does not detract from the laid back atmosphere of the place or its people and it is well worth a visit. This was my first visit to Cyprus and will certainly return again in 2-3 years time.

Most of the building work in Girne town centre seems to be more of less completed and is a huge improvement. The cost of eating out although still relatively cheap has certainly increased in price. The harbour restaurants are very expensive although Kose Basi is well worth a visit. Fantastic traditional cypriot food and reasonably priced. Padisah opposite The Colony was good value and delicious. Would recommend wandering down side streets and eating in non touristy cafes and restaurants for the best meals.

Lapta wasn't quite as we expected it to be. We assumed that it was a proper resort with a promonade lined with bars and tavernas but they were all or mostly set on the main Lapta Road with not that much choice to be honest. T

he beaches in Lapta were chargable and mostly rocky coves but we often drove a couple of miles towards karsiyaka to a sandy beach which was pleasant and clean.

The electricity seems to be a huge problem with power sometimes remaining off for 8-10 hours a day which can sometimes be a nuisance.

The resort was quite dusty due to the number of new buildings under construction at the time we visited.

The entertainment side of things was generally karaoke with the resident Lapta Djs Dawn and Ozzy doing their rounds at various bars around the resort, a case of once youve seen them its difficult to enjoy a 3rd time round.

We have said we will visit Lapta again for our wedding anniversary in 5 years (as we were married at Bellapais Abbey whilst over there) to see if anything has changed which we would imagine it would do with N. Cyprus being an up and coming island.

The hotel had its own beach which was kept clean, was good and adequate for the number of guests staying at the complex
as there was a huge main pool and a smaller pool in quiet location amongst the bungalows. Entertainment for children
seemed to be good during the day and excellent in the early
evening. Entertainment for adults in the evening followed on from the children's. Although a little risque at times was
very enjoyable if you just went with the flow of things.
Overall we found our visit to northern Cyprus to be an enjoyable experience we will most definitely be returning in the near future. The female flight attendants were a bit intimidating though and not very friendly you can't win them all.

We stayed at Oscars which is only about 5 mins away from town centre. Kyrenia very nice harbour plenty to eat although charge you a lot more to eat by the harbour! Boat trips excellent value for money. We went on the Amanda Suzanne boat which was 20 pounds for 6 hours. There are nice beaches but you have to be able to drive to get to them!

Kyrenia itself probably the best part of Northern Cyprus
with many excellent restaurants. Taxi 7 YTL into Kyrenia.
