Monte Dourado is a very clean and well kept resort. The apartments are surrounded by landscaped gardens. Some have terrific views of the sea.
There is not any entertainment as such on Monte Dourado itselt but there are about 5 swimming pools each with pools for children on the whole site (our apartment had 16 apartments to one large pool and one for children)and tennis courts and an internet cafe in Reception. However, the location is perfect as it is only a 2 min walk to bars and restaurants.
The beach is quite small and can imagine gets very busy in summer. It is only a 3 minute walk from Monte Dourado and is so picturesque, it is off the main square with high cliffs either side. Plenty of places for drinks/ice creams/breakfast and lunch!

We first went to Carvoeiro in 1981 when we rented a villa for two weeks. In those days, it was a quiet little village with very little tourism. When we went back in April 2004, it had changed beyond recognition but still retains the quiet, friendly atmosphere we enjoyed all those years before. There are more hotels and villa/apartment complexes, loads of restuarants and bars but the developments have been kept in check so there are no huge buildings dominating the skyline. The village is compact with plenty of shops, everything well tended and clean. The beach is tiny but sheltered and again very clean. There are plenty other (slightly) larger beaches nearby. There's a good local bus service can take you to nearby towns like Lagoa, Portimao, Silves and Monchique. We rented a car locally for three days and went further along the coast to Cape St Vincent (stunning).
We booked flights and hotel independently via the internet. We also arranged for a minibus transfer between Faro airport and the hotel. This cost us 50 euros each way. Taxis in Carvoeiro were metered and reasonably cheap.
This is definitely not a razzle-dazzle type of resort. There were a few bars and clubs that catered for the younger stay-out-late crowd. But for those of us who appreciate peace and quiet and a gentler pace, Carvoeiro is definitely the place to go. If you want more information, they even have their own web site: http://www.carvoeiro.com/

Carvaireo is a really nice little fishing village that has the feel of a Cornish holiday town in the med about it.
The bars are good, the gift shops are there, but also a great market and nice beach.
There are some nice quiet walks to go on as well as traditional holiday pursuits - a real holiday resort for everyone.

Resort is on the small side few pubs but not over run but thats a good thing in this area of the algarve.
Beach acess from the hotel was of a good standard
I dont think theres enough here to make me come back resort wise

Rocha Brava is a short taxi ride from Carvoiero, small but clean beach, plenty of shops and restaurants. Rocha Brava apartments are quite self sufficient, plenty of good place to eat. The Algarve is spectacular
Good resort - although beach is small and would probably be very crowded in high season. Good area from which to explore the Eastern end of the Algarve.
Carvoeiro nearest resort, very clean and bustling in the evening, some excellent restaurants, but for the best beaches a car is essential, as there are some beautiful ones in and around the area very clean mainly with cafe facilities.
Supermarket in the area excellent if you wish to cater for yourselves.
Will be returning in 2005, for the third year as will alot of our friends who we have met there.
