This was our second visit to the Don Carlos and we are still overwhelmed by the welcome of all the staff.
Tom & Wim the entertainment crew were absolutely fantastic, they kept everyone entertained during the day and night. Our two children(age 9 & 11) didn't want to leave the hotel to go on any trips as there was always so much going on.
The location of the hotel is good, you have the best of both worlds, you can sit on your sunbed and watch the children on the little beach (main beach only 5 minutes walk).
The food and cleanliness is excellent, if anyone has a problem with the choice of food in this hotel then they must be very difficult to please.
The only reason we won't be returning next year is that the price of a family room has gone up by

My family and I visited this hotel in June for ten days. We picked it due to the good overall holiday scores in the Portland brochure.
When we arrived the hotel was everything we had hoped and more. The reception and rooms were very modern and clean.
The location of the hotel was excellent, right on a small sandy beach and only a short walk from main resort.
The food was out of this world. I have been abroad for the last ten years in a row and have never had food like this in a hotel. Breakfast was the best with freshly cooked omelette's every morning.
My family and I could not find fault with anything at this hotel and would love to return another year.

Had a family holiday here 5/2005 have stayed at Fiesta hotels before and you always get a good standard.
This hotel is about 10 mins from the main part of the resort (watch out for dog poo on the way).
Hotel is very clean.
Food is ok needs a little more variety.
Location is not the best but does have a small Spar and a couple of bars beside the hotel.
Hotel staff are very nice.
Entertainment when I was there a couple of nights I was the entertainment. Entertainment staff are very good and the shows are good except the drag show.
I would not go back to this hotel would rather go back to Playa den Bossa.

We did not stay at the Don Carlos hotel, but at the Atlas apartments next door so this is not a review about the accomodation or the food.
Due to the fact we were on a Thompson holiday at the Atlas next door we were allowed to use the Don Carlos facilities and I am so glad we did.
I have decided to put in a review about the Don Carlos because we were very impressed with the hotel facilities and the staff.
The pool is warmer than expected in october and has a lifeguard during the day. With a no inflatables rule and a good size it makes a wonderful safe place to swim.
The beach at the hotel is pristine no litter, and again very safe for swimming and paddling for the kids.
Even as guests at the hotel we found no problem obtaining seats or sunbeds during the day, parasols were hard to come by though.
The bar staff were excellent, very polite and customer orientated.......Say hello to Jesus!!
The stars of this hotel however were the entertainment staff Wim and Anja. These guys were up at 9am until midnight keeping guests occupied with aqua aerobics, killer darts. killer pool. cocktail games, french boules, rifle shooting and mini disco!!!!
We are a family who usually amuse ourselves on holiday but this year spent all day every day 'being entertained'. The staff are well skilled at making it enjoyable whether you are 3yrs or 83yrs.
This hotel appears to cater to a wide age range from families to young children to elderly couples. I would like to thank all those more mature guests for taking time to speak to my young children and letting them join in the activities........however to those more mature guests who tutted and grumbled at my younger childrens every move..book with saga next time...even though we were not staying at the Don Carlos it is a family hotel not a care home.

We were two families with kids aged 14, 13, 12 & 11.
Arrived to friendly welcome from reception staff. Suites were brilliant. 1 room with twin beds - loads of wardrobe space, one room with chair beds (good size) again loads of wardrobe space. Two balconies. Maid service daily.
Food we found excellent. We did take our own water into restaurant one night - which caused a stir - strictly forbidden. So prepare to pay.
Sun beds were a real problem during the first week, second week the management chained them up at night and they were not released until 9.00 next day!! Pool very small and was crowded - lifeguard on duty all day.
Entertainment was very good, staff were really friendly and worked extremely hard and long hours.
We did not opt for the all inclusive drinks option! Watch the sangria - it

Hotel Cleanliness: The public area seemed to be cleaned in the mornings, but by evening, when hoards of youngsters roamed around, the bins overspilled, with crisp packets, etc. onto the floor, and dirty glasses with unfinished drinks lay around in corners.
Our room was cleaned every day, but once the maid's air freshener had lost its aroma, there was sometimes a disgusting smell of what could only be described as a cross between raw sewage and rotten eggs! One night we were unable to sleep, the smell was so bad, so went down to reception, where I was handed an air freshener.
Complained both to reception and the rep about the pong, and was told it would be fixed. A couple of days later it was as bad as ever. At times the smell extended into reception and the bar. It was definately worse when the air conditioner was on, so be prepared, either to stew or be gassed.
Hotel food: To begin with it was fine, but we felt it very much English orientated with roasts, mash and brussels appearing regularly, (school canteen came to mind). Salads were okay, but the sweets were either sickenly sugar laden or dry as a stick. Timing was something that needed to be mastered, because the hotplates didn't seem to be doing their job very well. If tables had been used before, you had get your own cutlery and napkins from a drawer and set the table yourself. We watched in amazement as holidaymakers then cleared away their dirty plates onto trolleys placed around the dining room and scraped their uneaten food into the bins. I do this at home and certainly dont expect to in a hotel.
Hotel Location: The Don Carlos is situated a nice stroll from the centre of Santa Eulalia. In the evening you can play the same game as we did while walking into town - Dodge the Doggy Doo Doo!
The small beach in front of the hotel is nice, which is just as well, because we could never manage to claim a sunbed round the pool. (We did once, but we had to set our alarm to get up in time).
Hotel Staff: You might now be surprised, but we actually couldn't complain about the staff. Reception were helpful and friendly and bar staff polite.
Entertainment: Well, here's where the complaining begins again. I think they were probably trying their best, but it was pretty poor. If anyone remembers Marco from Big Brother, then I'm sure the main entertainment guy could have been his twin. He tootled around the pool all day calling everyone "Darling", sometimes even appearing in drag!
There were a couple of bars situated just outside the hotel, and the food was delicious, reasonably priced and the staff were extremely friendly. It probably is a sin not to try the lovely restaurants and bars in the town and around the marina so, for us the all inclusive drinks options was a no no. This would only be beneficial if you are prepared to squash yourself onto a poolside sunbed everyday and spend the evenings again, round the pool. We ate out on our last night and really wished we had done so earlier.
I really don't think we'll be back to this hotel. I think what made it more disappointing was the fact that it had been praised so highly and holds the Thomson Gold Award. Can't think what for.
If you are looking for a basic but functional British orientated hotel with crummy entertainment and a smelly room, then this might just be the place for you. I could only recommend you to save some money and book into Butlins instead.

We have stayed at the Don Carlos for the last 6 years and have had a fantastic holiday each time. We go the same two weeks every year (boring, I know) and meet up with mainly the same people.
Would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone, food is fantastic, rooms are clean and bright and entertainment is excellently organised.

The Don Carlos is an excellent place to stay. Staff are very friendly. Rooms are very very clean and the maids come in everyday. The food was very good and the all enclusive drinks option is well worth it. It is suitable for kids as there is lots of fun activities in the day time. Also adult entertainment was very good.Pool is lovely with a childrens section and at lunchtime if u want a snack a few steps down from the hotel you can get a lovely meal while whatching the view of the beach and the sea.15 minute walk to main town which has a lovely blocked paved promenade with lovely shops and some lovely restaurants.would definately go back again.
