Have just returned with my husband, 15 yr old daughter & her friend. Excellent facilities for families with younger children but not enough for older teens as they are drawn to the bars etc outside the complex. Fortunately there was one round the corner 'Carabelle' which catered for younger teens and families and our girls made lots of friends of similar ages. If the kids are happy you can enjoy your holiday. Self catering facilities are poor - just 2 electric rings, no oven, grill or even a toaster! Lots of bars & restaurants to eat at though but beware many of them are terribly over priced for rubbish food. If you really want to push the boat out [adults only] try The Mirage at the marina - pricey but fantastic. The chef comes to your table and helps you select from the menu, I can't praise the food too highly. There is also a very nice Italian on the way to the marina I think it is called something like Pizzeria Carralichio. The minestrone soup and Steak Diane was superb and the owner is from Yorkshire! Don't miss Dugans Irish Bar - great live music and good fun also 'Upstairs' trendy bar in the centre, Sangria from there is particularly good [very strong]. At the other end of town quite near to Esmeralda Park on the way to Cala Ferrera is the Tropical Bar for cocktails - entertaining waiter who serves your drinks.

Aquacity - very expensive although booking direct through hotel reception is 6 euros per person cheaper than with JMC. Queuing for slides takes up most of your day so you don't get that many rides. You can hire your own tyre for 3 euros or so which enables you to jump queues on some slides but by the time we got there they had run out. Sun loungers are extra to hire and food in there is diabolical.

If you are thinking of booking your holiday with JMC - BEWARE, we met somebody at the hotel who had paid the same price as we had, also with JMC but they were on half-board and we actually spent a further

Just arrived home from the resort. Excellent facilities!
Took six 16&17 year olds, with us and another couple, very safe for them to go out at night and the reps were great taking them out on trips. Younger children seemed to be keeped busy by the hotel reps.
Only got a sunbed once in a fortnight, but thats because I was not prepared to get up before 9am. The beach is on your door step and a lot nicer than the pools.
We were self catering there are plenty resturants of all tastes but if you want the best food in Cala Dor visit EL Patio and try the shoulder of lamb, garlic lamb chops and the mussels are out of this world! Excellent service and just the same price as you would pay anywhere else.
A good holiday resort for families.

We have just arrived back from our holiday in Esmeralda Park, Cala D'or.
The complex is really very, very nice. Spotlessly clean & very well set out.
The pools are lovely, plenty of sunbeds but you do need to get your towel on one early,do what we did & train your child to do it for you :0)
A word of warning about the pools. The floor surface around them is very abrasive & it literally rubs the skin from the balls of your toes. This is made even worse by the sand from the beach being around the area too.My kids feet bled terribly for the first few days. Pack a couple of pairs of old socks & get them to wear them when in & around the pool.
The rooms are spacious, well set out & very well maintained.
The hotel offers an eating option, which is buffet style & good value. A bit "school dinners" in atmaosphere maybe, but all good fun.
We really loved the complex, but were not so keen on Majorca as a place to visit. Too big & comercial for our tastes.
Some of the resturants nearby & especially in Cala D'or center are pretty pricey for VERY average food. Pizza, Burgers etc.
We found a couple of very nice ones nearer to the hotel...."Papayas" which has wonderful food & great waiters, & "El Patio" which is brilliant too. check out their Mallorcan garlic Lambchops...yummy !!!
We had 2 days out at AquaCity which was very good, better from what I have heard than the other waterparks in the area.
Our only complaint was with the Thomsons kids club which was a joke. We made 8 visits, & our kids only got to go in on 3 of those visits. The other times it was cancelled with no prior warning. This is a HUGE pain when you have got your kids out of the pool, dried them, fed them & got them changed ready for club, then walked the 10 minute uphill walk to the T club house. Thomsons will be getting a very severe letter from me about this one!
The hotel has its own kids club (The Koko loco Club),which is very well run, efficient, nearer to the pool & excellent in evey way. Don't make the mistake of thinking it is just for the international guests at The Esmeralda...everyone staying there can use it. The team that run this club are young & fun, & work really hard to keep the entertainment going all day. They are brilliant.

Really enjoyed the 2 weeks in June 02. The complex is very extensive, right on the beach.
The entertainment staff put a lot of effort into the evening entertainment which takes place every night, and there is plenty of stuff for the kids to do.
However - BEWARE!! If you have children of pram age (which I have), there are lots (I counted 49) steps to get from the apartments to the beach, with 2 trots across expanses of sand in the middle. You can, of course, stay around the pool but the complex is built in such a way that there are many different levels, with sheer drops from one to the other, and you will only need to take your eyes off them for one second for the tots to play at lemmings.
That said, the complex is great and the resort of Cala D'Or is excellent, with great shops and loads of nice restaurants all very well laid out in the town centre.
