Everything else here was absolutly brilliant.
The hotel was spotlessly clean and the gardens very well kept.
The sea views are great from most balconies.
It is an excellent base to explore the island.Close to Playa Del Ingles,Sioux City and Palmitos Park.
Buses run regularly from just ouside the hotel and taxis are cheap and arrive quickly.
The reception staff were always friendly and helpful and most spoke english.
The entertainment was brillint. The kids reps were great. There is always something to do if you want to for both kids and adults.

The hotel was beautifully clean, the rooms were cleaned daily and the grounds were very well tended, lovely to wander around. The only drawback in the rooms is the 3 steps dividing the living area, which is fine for kids over 2 but I would presume slightly hazzardous for any little tots learning to walk, as its all tiled floors.
The hotel is slightly out of the main centre of activities (10 min. drive to Playa del Ingles) although there is so much to do round the resort you could happily spend most of your time there, and it's not a noisy resort. The 3 pools were very clean, with plenty of sunbeds and entertainment going on.
The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful and nothing was too much bother for them.
The entertainment team were brilliant, the kids loved the evening entertainment which went on until 10 o'clock for the kids, after which there was a show for all the family, such as The Drifters, and acrobats and dancers on until about 11.30. The kids clubs were on 6 days a week, they had great fun and we had 2 hours peace and quiet knowing they were very
safe. The British entertainment starts at the beginning of May so I wouldn't recommend going out of season as you'd be missing a heap of fun.
If we return to Gran Canaria we would definately stay at the Orquidea. A first class hotel for people with children.

Daytime and evening entertainment very good if you are staying for just one week but a bit monotonous for 2 weeks, same music and games etc, however there wasn't any bingo which gets a real thumbs up from me. Entertainers worked very hard to try to keep everyone happy.
Hotel food was very good quality and large choice for adults, childrens choice of food was limited and very repetitive. Chips served on childrens buffet most nights and not on adults buffet which caused huge queue as adults queued up there just to get chips. By the time I had visited the childrens buffet with my daughter my husband had eaten his first course and I then had to queue to get mine.
Hotel staff very friendly and extremely helpful, rooms nice and cleaned daily to very good standard.
Pools clean and nice water temperature.
Hotel grounds absolutely beautifull and views from hotel over the sea first class. Small resort which suited us, not commercialised in any way and very relaxing.
Location not suitable for a beach holiday but the pools and gardens more than made up for a rugged coastline.
A nice relaxing holiday, only real downside was the queueing at mealtimes at the childrens buffet.

The staff were very pleasant and helpful.
The food was quite good but needed a bit more variety.
The entertainment for the kids which we don't have was excellent but for the adults it was quite poor although we did see the Supremes playing at the hotel which was excellent.

First impressions of the hotel were lovely but quiet. Not a lot of english were there mainly Swedish. There are two big pools and one kiddies pool. The pools were clean and there were plenty of sunbeds.
The rooms were very clean, my only concern were the three steps in the room, which were separating the living area to the sleeping area (as I have a 1 year old daughter, I was afraid of her falling down them). The food I cannot fault and the staff worked really hard clearing the tables.
The entertainment was not geered for the English (although I was told it started in May). I think if we are paying money to stay at the hotel they should provide entertainment for the English as well, whatever the season, and especially for the children as there wasn't a kiddies club, BUT GUESS WHAT, only for the Swedish.
If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of home, this hotel is nice for a quiet and peaceful holiday. I would say 1 week is long enough.

The tide meant that none of us were able to take a dip in the sea, very strong current and extremly rocky. The entertainment was crap and only geered towards the dutch and sweeds etc, however I uderstand that this is differnt during the summer period?
The bar was very expensive and we had to wait/queue all the time! the rooms wre good but the lifts took for ever to come, as we were on the 9th floor this was a pain to say the least!
Would say this was a 4 star hotel, pushing it to say a 3! would not stay a either the resort or the hotel again.

The room was nice and clean, and really spacious. The balcony was a real suntrap, although our view of the sea was a little distorted by the palm trees.
The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble.
The only downside was the Food. Breakfast was ok but the evening meal left a little to be desired. It was supposed to be a 4* hotel, but I would not consider being served fish fingers ( otherwise known as "breaded fish") as 4* food. This was on the adult menu and not the children's selection. The food was never very warm, no matter what time you went down to the restaurant. Everything seemed geared to the Germans and Scandinavians.
Entertainment was a little hit and miss, even on New Years Eve, when the hotel's already expensive drinks prices were put up even further. This hotel had been recommended to us, and we had to wait all year for this family holiday. We thought it was going to be special going away over Christmas and New year. It was a break, but nothing special.
The hotel did not enforce the towel rule on the sunbeds before 09.00am, and hence the best sunbeds were always taken, and they didn't even use them till afternoon!
The gardens were lovely though on the complex, and so were the swimming pools. The hotel looked a little tired in places, and could do with being revamped. It was quite windy some nights, and the windows in the corridor didn't close properly, so there was always a draught blowing under the door - no need for air con!

The hotel cleanliness was top notch and it was always clean and tidy the cleaners were always saying hello and smiling through out the time they were cleaning if you were in the room.
The food was lovely it was really nice and I loved the theme nights that they had sometimes and I liked the variety of food on offer.
The location on the hotel wes very quiet but thats nice the place is a must for people who want to get away from the hustle and bustle
The entertainment was ace I loved it especially JAMMER, he was really nice and big daddys aqua splash in a morning dressed as crazy frog was hilarious I loved it and special k joining in with the water polo was entertaining 2 watch, the nights entertainment was brilliant.
I loved samba time at 11 o clock it always got children and adults getting up and looking like idiots especially when rolf harris came on.
i want 2 visit this hotel again as i loved it i really want to see if it is the best second time around

We did not know what to expect from a location which is not usually one of the main two (Maspalomas of Playa de Ingles), but were pleasantly surprised by what the hotel offered.
Arrived at a temp of 42 degrees without any air-con. You can imagine how hot the rooms become. The room itself was fairly clean (few marks on the walls), but no broken tiles or creatures roaming around. Nothing a lick of paint wouldn't solve. Have to pay 30 euros for a safe for the two weeks. A cool box is also available to rent over the stay but we found pulling gently on the handle opened it anyway, so got away with that one. The downstairs areas were all spotless. The pool area was clean as was the eating areas and bars.
Onto the most disappointing part of the stay...the food. Firstly breakfast - same every day, bacon, beans, sausage, cereal and a cold meat selection. The bacon was terrible, barely cooked. Sausage yuk. and the cereal, well, I have never experienced cornflakes like that! And for a hotel that mostly caters brits....only fried eggs twice a week! Not good.
Evening Buffet - good variety with traditional foods mixed with canarian styles but very repetitive for a two week stay.
The location wasn't ideal. On our last stay we ventured out into playa de ingles which was walking distance, but found that if we went to the nearest centre to us cost 8 euros in a taxi we ended staying at the hotel for the most part. The bus service is regular and much cheaper for daytime travel.
The staff in the hotel were all excellent. Very approachable for anything you might need and are always around.
Now the highlight of our stay.... entertainment!!!
With the cost of travel to all the nightspots we were left thinking what we were going to do on an evening..answer: Big Daddy, Special K, Jammer and team. Working non-stop to make you laugh and feel part of everyones enjoyment. Superb for the kids. They will entertain you from morning to night and chat after that too! Unbelievable thanks to you all for keeping smiles on our faces. This holiday is worth it for the entertainment alone.
Would we stay again.....YES, hopefully with kids next time.
